(10,608 posts)We need to shut down the White House for the next two years," Platner said on Wednesday.
SABATTUS, Maine Maine Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner is promising a dramatic increase in oversight of the Trump administration should he help his party flip enough Republican seats for Democrats to regain a majority in the U.S. Senate.
Platner reiterated the goalmade previously at a Democratic Party forum two weeks agoat his campaigns 63rd town hall Wednesday night, when about 150 people filled the American Legion Post in the Androscoggin County town of Sabattus.
If we get the majority, it is Senate committee investigation time," Platner said. "We need to shut down the White House for the next two years. Not only do we have so much crime and corruption to actually investigate, but its also a tool. If we haul everybody in the White House under subpoena in front of Senate committees over and over and over again, they wont have time to be in the White House breaking more things. I also think not one Democratic Senator should vote to confirm a single nominee that come out of the Trump administration moving forward.
We got sold out by a political system that does not have our interests at hearta political system that could not be a better example of than Susan Collins. Susan Collins is the epitome of the self-interested establishment politician who shows up for her donors and always leaves her constituents hanging," Platner said at the town hall. "Things have gotten worse down here in the 30 years that she's been in office. She brings in a little bit of money to the state to justify the fact that a lot more is getting sucked out of us by a system that was built to make sure that we all work harder and longer and for less. It needs to change.

(133,407 posts)I don't like the charisma attached to a questionable character. I guess we have no choice. Well Maine has no choice if they want the Senate seat.

(3,196 posts)But I am impressed with the clarity and consistency of what Platner has been saying during the entire campaign. I believe our only hope is candidates who will speak clearly, forcefully and consistently, clearly on the side of working Americans.
EVERY candidate can be smeared. They are smearing Talarico for being a Vegan.
My rationalization is that if Platner turns out to be another Fetterman, we are no worse off than with Collins. OTOH, if he is true to his word, we gain some real backbone in the Senate, and we can build on that.
Regarding the tattoo, I simply don't believe anybody who claims to have known this was a Nazi symbol. That's a very obscure reference and the skull & crossbones imagery has been used millions of times in other contexts that have nothing to do with Nazis. Moreover, that misses the big picture, which is that it is now Israel that is leading the genocides. What Netanyahu has done to destroy sympathies for what the Jewish people suffered under Hitler is unforgivable.

(29,385 posts)No Democrat was given the benefit of the doubt, corrupt motivations assumed, alarm over all the terrible caving they would do if not constantly and loudly bashed every day.
Math was out then, too. Vote Blue No Matter Who considered a threat telling people what to do, mention of Supreme Court and judges and legislation only possible with majorities was mocked.
Pragmatism was out, that was establishment, status quo, centrist, "donor class" blah blah blah.
Pragmatism not moral righteousness, trust the candidate, math is real. Welcome back, status quo!

(29,385 posts)Republicans have had this mindset for many decades now - going back to the early 90s.
And, Ds almost always "taken the high road" and N E V E R. Not even once, been given credit for it, and the Rs never are held to account for it.
It is LONG past time for Ds to stop trying to hold itself up to standards that this country no longer has.

(7,714 posts)I get dozens of emails a day asking for money.
If Carville, in any way, is in the header, I IMMEDIATELY delete it.
I've even rached out to some of the campaigns I support that have used him and told them as much.
You want my money, get rid of that clown as a spokesman.
I don't know Carville is saying about Platner, AND I DON'T GIVE A SHIT.
But I do know, from everything I've read, that Platner is getting shafted from all directions. And he doesn't deserve it.
He has been, in fact, a staunch anti-Trumper, anti-fascist, pro-democracy veteran.
And he is far, FAR, FAR SUPERIOR to the useless bag of jellyfish intestines called Suzie Collins.
THAT we should all agree on.
And tell Carville to go fuck himself.

(174 posts)Platner is a sexist and it's a terrible thing to do to women and girls.
It needed to end with the Nazi tattoo and the first sexist tweet,
But sexism lives and we've got the faux working class screw up.
