General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWe've elected a PRESIDENT who is twice divorced and cheated on ALL THREE of his wives---
as well as being a convicted felon, someone who lost a civil suit for sexual assault,
and rumored to be a pedophile....
so I REALLY could not give a SHIT that Platner *may have* sent sexual texts to adult women
while he was married.... this is penny-ante garbage even if it is true!
I'm DONE with the double-standard which Republicans, the media, and some Democrats
try to enforce that DEMOCRATS have to be PERFECT,
while all the ACTUAL SEX CRIMES committed by Republicans are IGNORED!
Fuck this noise. It's a matter for the voters of Maine to consider,
NOT for US Senators or anyone else who doesn't have a vote in Maine!
And frankly, I don't think most of the voters will give a tinker's damn about it,
with all of the other much more important issues facing us!
Also looks a little too "summer of 2024" to me!
Some Democratic US Senators meddled in THAT Presidential Election,
and where did it get us--- or some of them ???
(Senators Sherrod Brown and Jon Tester both asked President Biden to withdraw from the election...
in which they were up for re-election.
They got what they asked for, and they lost anyway.)

This isn't Republicans attacking him, it's a Democratic Primary and we have options.
I don't like seeing the bar lowered to accommodate creeps, not at ALL.

(82 posts)As long as they don't hurt anyone I could care less what politicians do in their lives. Platner's wife is the only that should be concerned about thisand she's not

(2,254 posts)While gross in that he was allegedly in a committed relationship, that's still an issue between him and his wife. The posts blaming women for rape, using retarded as a slur, the tattoo, those are far more significant in terms of how I look at him in terms of a potential public servant.

(47,960 posts)Some here even go as far as to suggest nothing he did before the campaign matters. Like he started living only when he started his run for Senate.
As for Trump, getting away with everything appears to be his very special talent. Regardless, as I would never vote for Trump, argument that because Trump gets away with everything, so should everyone else, doesn't hold water for me.

Let's see how the folks in Maine feel about it next week.

(47,960 posts)Did it not? Al Gore, Hillary probably paid for Bill's behavior. As is it might have cost them the election. Even though they were not to blame.
I am afraid this guy is going to cost us.
Defending him might not be worth it.
Billsdaughter
(198 posts)Because of the Supreme Court and particularly Sandra Day Oconnor voting to stop the recount.
Hilary shot herself in the foot as per usual by: A. Her sense of entitlement to the presidency; B. Calling Trump supporters a basketful of deplorables. C. using a private server for official state business and D. On St. Patrick's Day 2007, lying at the NPC about being shot while deplaning in Kosovo.
It's up to the voters of Maine to decide what's acceptable behavior.

(19,790 posts)as the driven snow before they'll support them, no matter how disastrous the alternative will be. Republicans know this, and they consistently use Democrats' moral squeamishness to their advantage. It's not that we shouldn't care about Platner's failings as a man, it's that we urgently need to regain control of the Senate in order to effect change. Trump can do so much more damage over the next 31 months, we need to stop him. I'm tired of all this purity shit.

(12,252 posts)Platner isnt perfect. He admits that and he claims he has changed. You can believe him or not. His wife says she does.
The question is whether the rest of us Dems believe a person can change. Those who may not believe have probably never experienced redemption nor sought it.
It looks to me like Platner has shown contrition and acknowledged his failings. Now its up to the voters of Maine to forgive him ... or not.
