NJ-07: Bennett wins Democratic House primary to take on Kean in New Jersey
Democrat Rebecca Bennett is projected to win her partys primary and will face incumbent GOP Rep. Tom Kean Jr. in New Jerseys 7th Congressional District this fall, according to Decision Desk HQ.
Bennett, a former U.S. Navy helicopter and officer in the Air National Guard, will face Kean in the general election, with the latter seeking a third term in Congress despite a monthslong absence from Capitol Hill and the campaign trail for months.
Kean, 57, has not voted since March 5, according to the House clerk. In late April, the New Jersey Republican said he was dealing with a personal medical issue, without providing specifics on the ailment.
My doctors continue to assure me that my recovery will be complete and that I will be back to the job I love very soon, he wrote in a statement. I expect to return to a full schedule and be at 100 percent.
