He was just doing a presser at the WH. He was condemning hate speech and pontificating about being patient with others, while they find their own pathway to "god".
He said, that not everyone gets there the same way, and that is why we have freedom of religion. We should give them the "space" to find their own pathway.
I am summarizing without exact quotes. But it really was as gobsmacking as it sounds.
