Donald Trump refused to rule out sending ICE agents to the polls in November. So prosecutors across America are sending a message: FAFO.
Today, a coalition of locally elected district attorneys and prosecutors from across the United States have officially put the Trump administration on notice: any federal agent who shows up at a polling place in violation of state or federal law will be investigated and prosecuted under the laws of the jurisdiction in which they act. And they will be jailed, if needed.
The announcement, made by the Project for the Fight Against Federal Overreach FAFO was first reported by Politico and comes a week after President Trump refused to rule out deploying ICE officers to polling locations during the November elections. Legal scholars across the political spectrum had already warned that such a deployment would constitute unlawful voter intimidation under federal civil rights statutes and state election codes. This morning, the prosecutors who would actually have to bring those charges stepped forward to say they are prepared to do so.
FAFOs founding membership reads as a map of jurisdictions that have already absorbed the brunt of federal overreach in the past year: Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Tucson, Austin, Dallas, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Fairfax, and Arlington, among others. More district attorneys are expected to sign on in the weeks ahead. The coalition was incubated by DEFIANCE.org and was spun off recently as an independent nonprofit organization at FederalOverreach.org.
The news was teased last week on an episode of DEFIANCE Daily, as prosecutors reminded listeners that the FAFO name itself was a pointed rejoinder to the Trump administrations frequent threats to its perceived foes: F**k Around, Find Out.

(24,082 posts)You mean to tell me that Trump is NOT omnipotent, and the states and the people are NOT powerless, despite what I keep reading here?
I thought all his wishes, demands and orders were executed flawlessly, producing the desired, successful results each and every time, and now Im seeing that the states are pushing back and resisting this push to fascism?

It's a Fascist regime.
Good luck identifying them to arrest them later?
They can't even find Renee Good and Alex Pretti's murderers

(24,082 posts)IIRC, they have identified at least one of the shooters in one of those murders, maybe more.
They are being protected by the current administration, but that wont last forever.
The state of Minnesota just indicted another ICE agent who shot and wounded an unarmed man shoveling snow in his yard.
They want to be fascists, but instead they are just chaos-sowing failures.
After the Blue Tsunami is November, the Reckoning will begin, first with congressional hearings, then, in 2029, with prosecutions.

hell summon the fortitude to sign on to this. But I dont count on him opposing Trump openly.
He and COO Gabriel Sterling arent MAGAts, but theyre also very conservative Republicans who know what it would mean to take on Trump directly.

(364 posts)So what army is going to arrest these highly armed goons when/if they resist arrest? And will they be shot for their armed resistance?
Can such goons be served with an emergency cease and desist order signed by a judge? They will have succeeded in mass disruptions and intimidation by their armed presence at polls. They must be immediately removed from polls as soon as they appear or else they achieve their masters' goal of voter suppression through intimidation. They are the ones who must be intimidated first. And of course, any legal actions taken against them after this will hold them accountable in court at a much later trial date.

(24,082 posts)All the defeatist Doomers seem to think things will unfold thusly:
1. Goons show up at polling places
2. Goons do whatever the fuck they want to voters and ballots
3. Nobody gets in their way
4. Success! Rigged election!
Numerous states have already been war-gaming various scenarios and strategizing responses. They have been doing this throughout the Trump era, intervening numerous times to thwart bad actors (just ask Tina Peters and Kari Lake).
P.S. you havent done the required math to prove your imagined scenario is even feasible. There simply arent enough highly armed goons to successfully disrupt enough polling places to affect the outcome, not when 2024 Trump +20 districts are swinging 15-30 points towards the Dems.

(26,464 posts)for all the polls. However, what about the J6 goonns that he wants to pay as a private army? If they try to intimidate voters, it would be in select places where the count might be close.

(24,082 posts)Throughout the past year, 2024 Trump +20 districts have been swinging 15-30 points towards the Dems- in FL, TX, GA and other deep red areas.
Selecting areas to strategically target will be impossible in 2026 precisely because of this Dem overperformance.
They may try to disrupt the elections, but they will fail, and some people may go to prison, or even die trying to protect the political future of one man.

(364 posts)I agree there are lots of what if scenarios that may play out. And I remain hopeful that the goons will be met with anticipated responses to thwart them even if they appear not to be able to affect the outcome of elections. And I also hope you are right about the math adding up to the largest blue wave defeat of anti-democratic candidates ever. Not a doomsayer but just wondering about possible scenarios because there are always unforeseen actions taken by those desperate Trump forces who are willing to do anything to try and win. Some pundits are even asking what happens if Speaker Mike Johnson refuses to seat newly elected Democratic representatives in The House due to some trumped up "voting irregularities" to be settled in court. I remember the precedent of Al Gore's stolen election that was "settled" in court. But I do hope all the war-gaming scenarios will be totally effective in defeating every instance of election rat-f***ing attempted by all the fascist goons, Justice Department stooges, Cabinet members and Congressional sycophants.
Fiendish Thingy
(24,082 posts)That includes Rick Wilson of the Lincoln Project, who did a recent clickbait video on the topic.
Johnsons term as speaker, and the terms of all representatives, ends at the end of this year.
On January 3, 2027, the 435 members-elect, as certified by their respective states, will convene at the Capitol and select a new speaker, who will then swear the rest in en masse.
There is a procedure where a member-elect can object to the seating of another member-elect, and there is a reason it hasnt been used in over a hundred years at the beginning of a new congress, not even for George Santos: because it would set off a domino effect of tit-for-tat objections resulting in not a single member being seated.
Once the members-elect are certified, the courts have no role or jurisdiction in the process of seating and swearing in representatives.
Any imaginary doomsday scenario must take these facts into consideration rather than simply jumping to the end result and proclaim he will just do it.
