GA-13: Gov. Brian Kemp to call special election to fill David Scott's 13th district seat

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp will call for a special election to fill the 13th congressional seat left vacant by the passing of David Scott on Wednesday.

According to the Georgia Secretary of State’s office, Scott’s name will remain on next month’s Georgia primary ballot.

“It is too late to change the ballot as early voting starts Monday,” a spokesperson for the office said. “Notices will be sent to absentee ballot voters, and posted inside of early voting locations and Election Day precincts.”

Votes cast for Scott will not count in the May 19, 2026, primary.
