because the GOP has weaponized religion as a way of promoting their ideology much the same way they use "national security" as a reason to do anything they like at the taxpayers expense.
Just another push towards Christian Nationalism. Enough is enough.

If his cronies and minions can't win in court, have DOJ draw up a custom-made "settlement" which basically says that all criminal activities committed in the case are perfectly acceptable, and it was a regrettable mistake ever to have charged anyone with them.
The DOJ has become the DODJT.
