Lately, I've been asked to serve on juries about bashing Dem. posts, the vast majority of them have been bullshit alerts involving nonsense.
I guess that, according to some here, free speech is verboten.
Hopefully, I don't get a thread hidden, but if I do, oh well.

(32,511 posts)I made a comment that the markets protect Republican presidents and hurt Democratic presidents.
That was supposedly a right wing talking point.
More needs to be done about people who make ridiculous alerts. Alert me on this.

(20,854 posts)That variables figure into the algorithm for juried posts. When you reach the screen where you vote there are four options, varying in strength of agreement or disagreement with the alert. I believe the options are weighted to factor in the final result but also reflect on the alerter. ie, only so many failing alerts are allowed.
I haven't thought about this for years - I reckon the memory of this comes from the time of the jury system introduction and I recall this being explained - probably in the meta forum.

(2,029 posts)Lots of those, and I find myself reading them repeatedly to try to find the violation
I find I usually end up having to say, close, but no cigar because
arent there more important things to quibble about?
Im assuming bashing is different from simply calling someone out for saying or doing something dumb or inconsistent or whatever. If I have to look for 15 minutes to find an offense, I chalk it up to someone having thin skin or just
I dunno
the obnoxious youngest kid in the family kind of mindset?
And seriously, there are some Dems who really are outside what the party should stand for and deserve to be bashed. If there are so many people crying about two wings of the same bird and serving the same masters, I think the party could stand to be called out now and then. Yes, the tide looks to be turning lately, but some introspection is necessary to avoid falling into the same traps that generate distrust, right? Otherwise, we just keep circling this same cycle of seesawing between outrage at one party, then the other. Dems need a stronger stand to prove theyre an actual alternative to what hasnt been working, right?
I think theres a vast difference between "criticizing" and "bashing. If we cant criticize, how do we ever grow?

(4,753 posts)If it's say the 15th post I find it easier with the context. Whenever I am in doubt, I give it a close call. IMO they should stand out in SOME WAY.

(18,153 posts)I don't alert unless it's a very clear violation of the ToS, like a personal attack against another DU member, or if it's an obvious troll spewing RW talking points.
I'm a huge proponent of the 1A and I won't tolerate any attack against our right to free speech and, sadly, I've seen far too much of this crap leaking into DU with these nonsensible alerts.

(2,544 posts)Ive pretty much stopped serving on juries. IMHO most of the complaints were either confusing or petty, and I often couldnt determine whether they broke the DU rules or not, especially regarding bashing Democrats. It just got to be too much.

(12,371 posts)Kind of still am. I'm so nervous I can spend 30 minutes or more writing and erasing stuff and often I find I just don't post at all anymore. I've been on this website for 20 years and I've never felt like that before.
(FYI I spent 16 minutes typing these two sentence and still have reservations about it getting dinged)
