(6,407 posts)He has been a terrible disappointment, but Bruce Poliquin was loathsome. I am glad Golden is not running again, and I really hope his rearranged district, now including me, will fend off the even more loathsome Paul Lepage.
The northern half of Maine is full of deplorables, sorry to say, so it's going to be a nail biter.

(3,458 posts)He represents an extremely rural (and White) district that went for Trump even when he (Golden) was elected. And he came in 2nd in the 2020 election, but with ranked-choice voting he was bumped up to the winner. All his elections have been squeakers, so it's not clear how well a progressive Dem would do. Hopefully we'll find out in November.

(287 posts)If there is a tie, the vote fails.

(146 posts)If so, even a tie vote would have it fail. It would have needed to be 215-214 for it to pass, so while the decision to vote 'no' was despicable, it didn't alter the outcome.

(456 posts)he would be in Congress casting the vote, and we would know who the war mongers are.

(160 posts)...we wouldn't be in this situation today, if Dems had not been complicit from the beginning > Nixon & Reagan. How many cycles have we gone through of Republican wrecking ball and Dem "cleaning" up, calming people down, and downplaying all of our concerns?
They are all touting a version of "just a little pain now, things will be better soon, trust us" mantra.
When Dems get back into power to do yet another round of "cleanup" we will then hear, "there is no money to do anything, the debt and deficit are out of control."
This doesn't mean don't vote!
This means we have got vote in masses while also identifying these people and getting them the hell out of the Democratic party, one way or another.
Makes me sick! 1 "Dem" fascist sympathizer giving cover to all those MAGA REPUBLICON fascists. Disgusting.

(2,839 posts)That other Dems really wanted to vote for this but couldnt because it would anger their voters. Since Golden isnt running again they used him to throw the clinker in the vote. He took the fall for them. I dont know how true that might be but I read it yesterday.
