Applegrove: What about immigration?

And of course we should move toward fewer work hours because thanks to technology we don't need everyone on the planet working a 60 hour work week to produce what we need anymore.

It's simple and obvious that more people would have more babies if they could afford it. But right now they can't.

As for immigration, the Millers aren't big on people with too much color and the remaining places that do still have a higher reproduction rates aren't pale enough.

The US was one of the few countries not facing the economic ramifications of this because so many people want to immigrate here.
Conservative fail to understand the economic benefits immigrants offer our country, and instead are pushing us toward the crisis every other country is working hard to solve. The only solution as they see it is to force white women to have babies whether they want them or not.

Yeah a lot of our economies are built on constant growth, but that has to come to an end. It will require a lot of reorganizing around retirement funding.

Which might in many ways be a good thing too, but the days of zero population growth as a cause are over. Nature and society are doing it for us. Falling fertility rates, and probably also choice.

All ten year old girls should be forced into marriage with a 50 year old White man. He can teach her from an early age how to be a good women for their GOPee men and have lots and lots of babies.

Lebensborn e.V. IPA : [ˈleɪbənzˌbɔːrn], German : [ˈleːbənsˌbɔʁn] (literally: "Fount of Life&quot was a secret, SS-initiated, state-registered association in Nazi Germany with the stated goal of increasing the number of children born who met the Nazi standards of "racially pure" and "healthy" Aryans, based on Nazi eugenics (also called "racial hygiene" by some eugenicists). Lebensborn was established by Heinrich Himmler, and provided welfare to its mostly unmarried mothers, encouraged anonymous births by unmarried women at their maternity homes, and mediated adoption of children by likewise "racially pure" and "healthy" parents, particularly SS members and their families. The Cross of Honour of the German Mother was given to the women who bore the most Aryan children.

Any unfathomably cruel policy by the Trump administration will always mirror what the German Nazis tried to do.

Especially if someone with the last name of "Miller" is involved

I have thoughts. And those thoughts have nothing to do with birth rates. More to do with autocratic warmongers and cult-like followers.

I don't see the existential problem as economic, political or social. I see it as ecological - too many people doing too much, and treating the planet and its atmosphere as a bag of human-owned resources to do it.

"Infinite growth on a finite planet is the ideology of a cancer cell."

And before anyone asks, I have no children after 75 years, and I'm quite prepared to go myself.

because it means less of them are getting girls pregnant at an age where their fertility is supposedly at its peak.

GOP is never beating those PDFile allegations.

Also, are they confusing fertility rates with birth rates?

I was one of those progressives who WANTED the teen pregnancy rate to go down. I believed (and still believe) that one of the best ways out of poverty is for young girls (as well as their responsible male partners) is to get an education and some capital so they can get married and THEN have a baby. I SEE NO REASOL WHATSOEVER WHY I SHOULD TURN AROUND AND CHANGE MY MIND.

Working one’s way out of poverty and social mobility USED TO BE part of the American dream, a dream that still ought to ought to be obtainable for ALL young Americans, regardless of race, gender, or ethnicity. That MAGA Republicans and their more moderate. allies have abandoned this trope is yet another betrayal af Americans, particularly young Americans starting on the path to adulthood.

If there were still any moderate Republicans, even Reagan-era Republicans who USED to believe that younger Americans should wait until they were adults before baby-making, I’d call on them to identify and then organize to forcibly sideline each and every ideologue and influencer pushing this obnoxious concept.

Unfortunately it looks like even those Republicans are fading away into irrelevancy just like the Ripon Republicans did a couple of generations ago. Or they
It spines have turned to jelly, which is the same thing.

And a society benefits as the average age of first birth moves into the 20s somewhere. This result is the success of contraception and the access to basic sex education. Plus informed social media like some of the better SubReddits where our smarter youth are making sure their peers know the phycical risks of early age births and the attendant issues of trying to raise one's self along with a kid in our late capitalist social hellscape. The issue we face being on the educated end of the spectrum is that many conservative religious sects across many faiths are out breeding the rationalists.

I think having a "web of life" is a good thing, and humans are currently tearing it up. The fewer of us there are, the less damage we do. But thinking outside our own species is hard for most people, it seems.

Two academics have argued that the "harmful over-consumption of schooling" is responsible for the plummeting birth rate across the U.S.

Jay P. Greene and Lindsey M. Burke, both Ph.Ds, are concerned that other Americans may be becoming unnecessarily educated. An overview of their argument was published on Monday on the website of the Heritage Foundation, a think tank where Burke is the director of the Center for Education Policy and Greene is a senior research fellow.

The Heritage Foundation is the group behind Project 2025, the conservative manifesto for how the U.S. should be restructured under incoming President Donald Trump.

More money in the hands of the rich means less money in the hands of people making families.

Children are less affordable than they used to be.

I do not need to describe the logical result.

Thu Apr 16, 2026, 03:18 PM

They are after a new baby scoop era, like in the mid-20th century, no birth control to force reproduction then manipulate them to give their babies up for adoption with coercion by social services and ending any programs to assist them to keep their babies. White babies will to " good Christian couples" who will "raise them right". Minority babies....God only knows, maybe grow up to drop dead on the floor of a grueling workplace, like the poor man in the Amazon warehouse.
