Chinese tanker sanctioned by US crosses Strait of Hormuz despite blockade

A US-sanctioned Chinese tanker, Rich Starry, crosses the Strait of Hormuz, becoming the first to exit the Gulf since the US blockade began, carrying methanol from the UAE.

A Chinese tanker sanctioned by the United States passed through the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday despite a US blockade on the chokepoint, shipping data showed.

The Rich Starry would be the first to make it through the strait and to exit the Gulf since the blockade began, data from LSEG, MarineTraffic and Kpler showed.

The tanker and its owner Shanghai Xuanrun Shipping Co Ltd were sanctioned by the United States for dealing with Iran. The company could not be immediately reached for comment.

And most (except apparently those in SOCOM, unfortunately) know the definition of war crimes.

I'm sure each time a container ship is visually reported as approaching, the CO carefully re-reads the blockade order, call the mess decks for a fresh pot of coffee, then set the bridge chair in "comfy", sit back and ask the Ops Boss to find, print, and read out the online manifests of the approaching ship very carefully before making a decision to stop and board.
Maybe this would be done before the container ship has passed over the horizon.
Depends on how fast it's going
- and whether or not they already identified it on the AIS and all indications was that the ship originated from an Iranian port.

This was leaving UAE.

If the Iranians (and their insurer) let them run the Strait, it could be the start of a trend.
