(6,378 posts)The ouster of Orban gets a crippling thorn out of the EUs foot. It is stronger in unity.

(13,288 posts)All of the terrible things done by Trump and the Republicans have been an eyeopener to the rest of the world. People are horrified. In countries like Hungary (and Canada) this has caused a surge in liberalism and democracy
Its truly awful that this is what it has taken for people to open their eyes.

(20,820 posts)And I was almost grateful to the trump admin. for showing us what arseholes they can be when Labor won our last general election. Trump doesn't have many admirers here.

(5,359 posts)to make it so. Orban stacked the court system. There is a lot of work ahead for Magyar.

(9,168 posts)The major one for Hungary is that he declared his majority would alter the constitution to impose a two-term limit on his office. Orban would therefore be automatically barred from standing again, even if he stays out of jail (or worse if Putin's goons get hold of him).
Here are few more highlights:
I demand the resignation of the President of the Supreme Court, the Chief Prosecutor, the President of the Media Authority, and the President of the Competition Authority as well.
Sulyok should entrust us with the task of forming the government at the earliest and then step down from his position.
And this is what the Fidesz politicians said. Then I would like to ask them: What would you do if Russia attacked Hungary? Which Hungarian counties would you be willing to give up?
Ukraine should receive security guarantees and territorial guarantees that can be observed and kept. Ukraine, under the Budapest Memorandum, gave up its nuclear arsenal for guarantees, but those guarantees were violated repeatedly by Russia.
Hungary is a free, independent European country, part of the EU and NATO, and that is how we will act in the world.
We cannot change geography. Russia will still be there and Hungary will still be here.
So we must diversify our energy supply for security and lower prices. That does not mean cutting ourselves off, it means buying oil and gas as safely and cheaply as possible.
I'm not talking about the Russian people, the Russian culture, the Russian people, they are fantastic people.
But the Russian bear in Hungarian history, we felt it in 1849, in 1944, 1945, but in the 1920s, in 1956, and then they were here with us for a long time, so we know exactly what this is about.
Meanwhile, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó, who'd been missing since the election result, popped up at the Foreign Ministry, where he was reported to be barricaded in with his cronies having a shredder party, focusing mainly on evidence of shenanigans around various issues regarding EU sanctions on Russia. Magyar said this wouldn't prevent his being brought to justice.
Thank you for the info.!!

This is why Russia is still fighting, why the war continues and why people are dying: Because Trump and Vance encouraged Putin to believe he could win
