Eric Swalwell suspends campaign for California Governor

Swalwell is suspending his campaign after allegations of sexual misconduct. It will be interesting to see which Democrat will get a bump in the polls.

Rep. Eric Swalwell on Sunday evening said he was suspending his campaign for California governor on the heels of sexual misconduct allegations against the Democratic lawmaker.

“To my family, staff, friends, and supporters, I am deeply sorry for mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past,” Swalwell, 45, said in a post on X announcing the suspension of his campaign.

Eric Swalwell dropping out of the Governor's race is a good thing from a political, perspective.

I am not passing judgement on the moral or legal issues that are obvious by the accusations, just the politics of it all.

I always have said that the "innocent until proven guilty" theme only applies in a court of law. Elections are won or lost in the court of public opinion. If an accusation of any kind is credible, the candidate is cooked.

I'm sorry, but the accusations against Công. Swalwell seem probable enough for me that I would not support or vote for the man.

In that case, he needed to drop out of the Governor's race because, I'm sure, that there are a lot of California voters who feel as I do.

“I will fight the serious, false allegations that have been made — but that’s my fight, not a campaign’s.”

Of cheating on his wife, but the people he did were consenting. But that's harder when they are your junior staff or are too drunk to consent.

is that he believes he had consensual sex with the accusers. That is a betrayal of his marriage vow, but not a crime.

I'm not saying that's what happened, I'm just decerning what Swalwell is saying
