'Eric Swalwell ends campaign for California governor after sexual misconduct allegations'

https://www.cnn.com/2026/04/12/politics/eric-swalwell-ends-campaign-california-governor

'Rep. Eric Swalwell said Sunday he would withdraw from the California governor’s race in the wake of allegations of sexual misconduct that led to a nearly immediate campaign collapse, as staffers quit and prominent Democratic supporters urged him to drop out.

“I am suspending my campaign for Governor,” he posted on X. “To my family, staff, friends, and supporters, I am deeply sorry for mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past. I will fight the serious, false allegations that have been made — but that’s my fight, not a campaign’s.”'

I'm still having a hard time buying this. Swalwell has always seemed like a real milquetoast to me. Maybe I can Vinca Monday #5

That his best case scenario of sleeping with his subordinates, including one blackout drunk, is still full of consent problems.

He's trying to admit to the small problem to avoid taking responsibility for the bigger problem.

He had several inappropriate relationships with young female staffers (while married) but is claiming he didn’t do anything illegal. Since New York is now criminally investigating him, they’ll make a decision if the SA accusation is able to be prosecuted or not and a jury can decide if he’s guilty or not.

believe he got loaded and cheated on the wife, but the allegation seems more violent and that doesn't seem like Swalwell. Add to that the timing, the affiliation of someone associated with Katie Porter and the fact we didn't hear a peep about anything remotely like this as recently as an election a year and a half ago. I don't know. Best he dropped out of the election, though. Just hope California doesn't get stuck with a Republican governor.
