(3,780 posts)1966 was an amazing year too, like if you look back on all that happened, it's pretty crazy. Very important one in US history. And not just because of us coming along, although of course that was huge

... you find it "amusing" to bash a generation when people of every generation voted for Trump?
It's really juvenile. The only thing is when something juvenile gets called out, if someone reports the reply to try to get it removed.
That's petty. Oh the irony.

(67,223 posts)Back then, lead paint and leaded gasoline were tagged as the culprits.
Now that the profitable demographic has changed, I guess it's time to start picking on GenX.

(330 posts)On the back end of Gen X. From my experience, EVERY generation in the last 100+ years has been less intelligent that the one preceding it. I've seen numerous studies along those lines but not in the mood to find them right this second.
My experience shows me that Gen Y is by far less intelligent than Gen X. The Gen Y people I interact with are rocket scientists compared to the Gen Z people I've seen.
Teachers I know, say that the new Gen A's are going to be even worse.
We're living in the movie Idiocracy.

(2,398 posts)1963 here. Had chemistry, biology, and foreign languages in JUNIOR high school.
It was definitely a minority of kids that took advantage and did well in those classes, but the fact that they were available at all 50 years ago and they arent now kills me.
Todays kids cant even properly use English.

Our parents still do not know where we are at.

(8,286 posts)No matter the generation - They fall in one of those categories.
See all the " regretful" trump supporters who never thought " it" would happen to them. Whatever that " it" is.
They were perfectly fine with " it" happening to others based on racism, bigotry or selfishness.

(85,265 posts)With a bunch of uncited claims. And of course, correlation is not causation. The claim about Trump support is disputable at best and disprovable depending on how you frame it. And you can make any claim about Gen X childhood for or against anything. For example, Gen X elected the first black president because of the anti-racism insisted on by the generation which broke from their more racist older and younger peers. Is it true? Who knows but it sounds right.

(34,554 posts)People tend to be nostalgic and think of those times as "good". I remember the founder of Red State saying that.
Look at Paul Ryan, Marco Rubio etc.
I'm a boomer. Reagan was a culture shock. We had all these social programs and poof, this guy came in and destroyed it. However, someone born in 1970 probably doesn't remember most of those programs. They see Reagan as the clean cut guy who gave an address when baby Jessica fell in the well and all that other nice stuff...
Also I don't think all of Gen X feels that way about Reagan. It's just a reason that a Gen X could naturally be more conservative than a boomer. Also Gen X is all grown up and saw what Bush did with the Iraq War and they're been exposed to the Trump disaster.
I think older generations had more lead exposure.
