He’s entitled to a vigorous defense of his character and in law. His candidacy is fatally damaged. Despite the fact that withdrawing inevitably makes a personal defense more difficult, the interests of his constituents should come first. The charges are about him. The race is about us. We’ll have a better chance of ensuring Republicans don’t get the top two spots in the California primary if he withdraws. He knows it. What he does will tell us a lot about his character.
