Saudi Arabias de facto leader, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has been pushing President Trump to continue the war against Iran, arguing that the U.S.-Israeli military campaign presents a historic opportunity to remake the Middle East, according to people briefed by American officials on the conversations.
In a series of conversations over the last week, Prince Mohammed has conveyed to Mr. Trump that he must press toward the destruction of Irans hard-line government, the people familiar with the conversations said.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel also views Iran as a long-term threat, but analysts say Israeli officials would probably view a failed Iranian state that is too caught up in internal turmoil to menace Israel as a win, while Saudi Arabia views a failed state in Iran as a grave and direct security threat.
But senior officials in both the Saudi and American governments worry that if the conflict drags on, Iran could deliver ever more punishing attacks on Saudi oil installations and the United States could be stuck in an endless war.

Bonesaw should pay for his own damn wars
Of the 19 hijackers who carried out 9/11: 15 were Saudi Arabian, two were from UAE and one each from Egypt and Lebanon. None from Iraq. None from Iran.

The Second Coming
By William Butler Yeats
1919
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

(4,387 posts)explained to me last week how the Saudis were a moderating force in the region, and never mind any alleged role in 911.
Remember anyone when Bush I got found out about showing Saudi officials war planning maps prior to the events in Gulf War I? Big story on 60 Minutes, very shocking at the time.
Nothing much has changed, although the Trump foreign affairs people are certainly far dumber than anyone Papa Bush had to mollify the Saudis.

We'll be there until the prince is satisfied.

Its obvious to me that Traitors comments yesterday were designed to 1. prop up the market and 2. stall for time until the Marines get into the region on Friday.
That someone wants the blame for extending this war to fall on the Saudis is just another data point. Same as blaming Netanyahu for instigating this fiasco in the first place.
Dont be fooled. This is all Traitor (and Hegseths) responsibility

And for the last damn time, Israel is a rich country. They don't need our military freebees. Not through my tax dollars. If you think differently, feel free to donate individually and leave the rest of us out of it.

(114,582 posts)The Saudis have been pushing this war for decades and they finally got an administration that was both stupid and pig ignorant and willing to do their dirty work for them.
I doubt the Saudis realized how stupidly this war would be fought, the Strait of Hormuz neglected until it was blocked.
