(15,814 posts)He thought that starting a war would distract from his problems at home. He thought he'd get the 90+% approval ratings that the Bush's got for their wars. When that didn't work he threw a tantrum like he always does. He needs to be removed.

US President Donald Trump says "there will be no deal with Iran except UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER".
Writing on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump adds: "After that, and the selection of a GREAT & ACCEPTABLE Leader(s), we, and many of our wonderful and very brave allies and partners, will work tirelessly to bring Iran back from the brink of destruction, making it economically bigger, better, and stronger than ever before.
"IRAN WILL HAVE A GREAT FUTURE. 'MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN (MIGA!).'"

(290 posts)The regime should know they wouldnt survive losing power, literally.
They will fight till the end and unless Trump is willing to put ground troops in theater, they will just outlast our will to fight. Considering the starting point politically of this, I don't think that's very long.

Why why WHY do we keep getting Republican presidents in office that continue to make the same mistake?

(5,041 posts)You take out Maduro and leave the rest of the political thugs and cartels basically in place. And, yes, they scrap and fight but Venezuela and the world is not really better for it. May even end up worse. Same will be true for Iran. The UN isn't going in to set up fair and good governance so those that remain in the rubble, the good and the bad, struggle forward to something new. Given the "bad" have the guns and whatever is left of some semblance of organization, what are the chances of things being better for anyone? Sure, in the immediate future Israel and some Arab neighbors are less threatened but that is not likely to hold if all we do is set up IRGC 2.0 as the surviving de facto leadership.
