NJ-11: Mejia (D) endorsed by End Citizens United

End Citizens United, a national organization dedicated to limiting the influence of dark money in politics, is endorsing Analilia Mejia for New Jersey’s 11th congressional district.

ECU said its support for Mejia extends both to next month’s special election, when Mejia will face GOP nominee Joe Hathaway, and to the June Democratic primary election for a full term.

“In a system rigged for billionaires, corporations, and corrupt politicians, Analilia Mejia refuses to be bought by special interests,” ECU President Tiffany Muller said in a statement. “Her decision to reject corporate PAC money makes clear that she’s running to stand with working people, not the wealthy and well connected.”

Mejia has some experience overcoming spending from the super PACs that ECU is dedicated to reining in. In last month’s special Democratic primary for the 11th district, a quartet of well-funded outside groups duked it out on the airwaves supporting and opposing two other candidates, former Rep. Tom Malinowski and former Lieutenant Gov. Tahesha Way, spending more than $5 million in total. (Mejia got a little over $400,000 in outside support herself from a coalition of progressive groups like the Working Families Party.)
