I had to reregister to vote today

This is a follow-up on my Monday’s post.

Went to my supervisor of elections today after realizing my TrueID driver license number had been changed without notification during the last renewal in January…..the old number I’d held since 1968.

Upon arrival, I had to fill out new voter registration forms. I told the clerk that I hadn’t been notified by the Florida DMV of the change in my identity information and ask what would have happened if I just showed to vote in the next election. Her reply was it PROBABLY wouldn’t have affected my eligibility if I voted in person. The issue would arise with mail in voting.

I’ve notified friends and family, none who were aware of potential issues though several had new licenses issued with new numbers.

To all the DUers out there. Please check for any potential changes in your identity data and spread the word! I didn’t realize how devious the government could be in subverting voter eligibility. Thanks!

1. My driver's license will need renewed February, 2027, so are you saying I'll have to re-register for the general ?

2. I just know what happened here in Florida.

The clerk informed me that the TrueID number change would affect mail in voting. Again, I had to fill out new registration paperwork.

I would caution everyone to scrutinize any reissue of identity data for potential changes that could affect not only voting but also banking and insurance.

3. When I went to vote in NC in the primary

I noticed this on the form I signed to get my printed ballot

“A voter 65 or older may use an expired form of acceptable ID if the ID was unexpired on their 65th birthday – it’s good for life! “

I should have inquired then , but had to look it up just now , apparently I can use any expired id to vote . Im 72 soon and at 65 my id was not expired

Texas required the actual number to vote by mail and many old people don't have their DL number in the SOS database.

Im just relating an issue with voter id here in NC that was new to me .

My license # has been mine since I was 16 … having it changed for whatever reason would be a real inconvenience , since I also have to use it to file my taxes online . I would fight that change .

4. Texas had this issue when they started requiring DL #. Many did not match what was in the SOS system

Or they didn't have a DL in the SOS system.

You would think FL would have learned from Texas. They had to transfer DPS data to the SOS database. Those with things like Real ID and recent renewals at the DMV didn't have the problem.

This only impacted mail voting, not in person. In-person doesn't check the actual DL #

Just make sure that the name matches the voter.

Florida did learn from Texas. The whole idea is to suppress the number of voters.
