Where would you prefer to be if $ were no object

and nuclear war was inevitable within a week's time because Trump was threatening to release a "big event" (no, Musk, Jordan, Biggs, Graham and Thomas, not THAT kind of "snuff" party. So sorry to disappoint, assholes).

Me: a posh hotel in Paris with my husband and dog

It’s pretty close to paradise.

Paris is nice, too.

Granddad came from Orkney and I'd love to go--and never come back.

Would do Canada in a pinch, but it'd take a long ng time to acclimate to winters after this long in Florida...

Decided on a trip to Europe to spend retirement funds a month after Trump's inauguration and the threat to either get on board or prepare for violence. It's been "drech" in the US ever since Jan 20, 2025, so I think we called it. At least my bp is way down, and one couldn't be in a lovelier environment with such friendly people.

I wonder if I’m too old to troll for a BF to move me there for my happy ever after… Should’ve started younger.

And yeah, the overall kindness is what put Canada up on my list, too. The US is seriously lacking that—or the endless doomscrolling is just getting to me. *sigh*

We live in the Pacific Northwest, which is very close to the Scottish climate, and for many of us, the PNW (or Cascadia as we increasingly think of it) is Scotland West, as anyone who has ever visited Victoria BC can attest.

I'm actually doing more and more remote work in England and Scotland. We could go back to Vancouver or Victoria (we were up there about fifteen years ago) given my wife has Canadian ancestry; we have family here now who are getting old which keeps is settled here, but the thought of moving once they're gone is still very much there.

to tour the northern peninsula and west coast. Weve brought our own camper over before but didnt make it far north. What I most like about Scotland are the people. In other countries, like Germany, small things can be a bureaucratic pain in the ass. I want to hear the Doric language in remote areas.

BTW N Scotland has good roads and little traffic.

All the amenities of course - a chef and driver too.

Last week on Earth? That would really suck because it's so unnecessary. Greedy, warmongering assholes refuse to get along and/or just let others be.

To where Ava Gardiner said, "It's a perfect place to shoot a movie about the end of the world" in 'On the Beach'. Down here in SE Aust. is about as safe a place as you can get and it's a good place to live too. I wouldn't pick anywhere else.

I said posh Paris hotel because most of the city's rooms are postage stamps. I evacuated with my dog, and now I want comfort for my pet as well!

I’d be technically worthless in the event of such a disaster. That’s why Paris works for me. Outdoor cafe, nursing my aperitif for the time remaining, complete r&r, literally useless.

Perfect for a last day on earth.

But Florence has jaw-dropping Brunelleschi architecture to admire before the strike, not to mention the best gelato.
