Just spoke with a friend who is Syrian.
She explained that the whole ME region is erupting. Syria has closed it's border with Lebanon, and the people from the south of Lebanon where Hezbollah is (where a friend of hers has gone to take care of his mother), are being evacuated to the north of Lebanon, because they can't get out, and they don't know what will happen.
She said the whole war is spoken of in terms of the ancient disagreement between Abraham's sons as to who is the rightful heir of the land that was promised by God. Honestly, that is how everyone there still speaks about life there.
And then we have Trump and Hegseth, not understanding any of this, swatting the hornet's nest....

The greatest peace treaty ever in the world between Israel and Hamas.
They've literally been fighting each other since Egypt and Babylon were superpowers. Their genetics are very similar. Their languages are in the same family. Their roots are the same. Yet they've been beating the shit out of each other for millennia. And over what? It's not like the Levant is the US Midwest or the Northern European Plain. It's a freaking sandbox!!!!!!!!!! You're killing each other over who possesses a freaking sandbox!!!!!! AAARRRRrrrg!!! 
The countries involved here represent all three of the Abrahamic faiths, and all claim that their god is on their side. Which of the gods will win? Which god is the big dog?? 
It is appalling to me how these people can rationalize killing masses of people to prove that their god is the true god, and the god of love....
