Some food companies, such as whoever makes Tostito salsa, are making the lids so small

that it would take Hercules to open them.

I tried the usual household hints. Rubber gripper didn't work. Run hot water over the lid for a while, then put on rubber gloves and try to open it.

Couldn't open it. Tomorrow I'm going to take it to the grocery store and ask them to open it for me.

tap the lid in 4 places opposite each other. I use the smooth side of a metal meat tenderizer utensil. Tap on one side of the lid, then the opposite side. Then do the other 2 sides. Usually works for me.

🤬 🤬 🤬 I have two items I use to try and open them. A pliers, and a round plastic circle with a smooth side and a side with ridges, usually either one will work, oh AND A LOT OF SWEARING.

And then try it again. This breaks the seal and then it opens easily.


I have TINY hands. I know all the tricks.

You are not the only one having trouble opening their jars apparently. Do a search for "Tostitos salsa lid" you will see videos on this exact subject.

Tell them -- although you like their salsa -- you are going to switch and start buying the fresh refrigerated salsa because you can get those lids off easily. They don't like to hear that. Bottom line they want your money.

Don’t be afraid to hit the floor hard. The rug will protect the glass rim from breaking but will allow the seal to break. Breaking the seal makes it easier to open the jar.

I prefer to use rug covered floor as I do not want to crack the floor tiles or the counter top or break the jar.

I can open anything this way - small jars to full gallon jars even though I am a late 70’s year old woman with small hands. No arthritis though

off! I ended up throwing it in the trash after trying everything every which way to get the lid off. The company knows after complaints for years but does nothing. If you want Gelato buy the market brand ... it opens.

that’s on the side of it. Put that little metal piece under the edge of the lid and flick your wrist up. So far this has worked every single time, all with minimal effort, or bending the silverware. 😀

Works for me every time. The methods you suggested usually fail me but this works like a charm. I just grab a meat tenderizing maillot and wack the sides a few times and voila!

Heat a washcloth up in the microwave and put it on just the lid for for a bit. So you are heating up just the lid so that it expands in relation to the glass. Also have rubbery pads to get a grip. My wife came up with this approach. We haven't had to clonk on the lid with knives or pound the jar on the floor since.

And it's safer than a knife. Many jars will pop easily, and then open up. It's magic really, try it! ☺️
