With the Failure of America's Press, We're all Doomed...

Last edited Mon Mar 2, 2026, 09:09 AM - Edit history (1)

By legitimizing Trump and Israel's unprovoked attack on Iran, they've lost all credibility.

I almost threw a bottle at my TV when 60 Minutes just broadcast a softball interview with the Late Shah's extant, errant and exiled spawn. Whose surfacing at this time, I'm absolutely certain, is a ham-fisted CIA OP. It's got Tulsi Gabbard tattooed all over it. Absolutely NO ONE in Iran wants a Shah 2.0 back into their country, unless it's for TARGET PRACTICE. The SON of the SHAH?!? Are they for real?

And to me, the worst part about this is the fact that Trump routinely creates acts of global and domestic chaos without any plans to resolve those acts of chaos, and to them, it's just another day that ends in "y,". His entire cabinet of yes-men is collectively the most incompetent gaggle of bootlickers ever assembled to hold public office, and they're sweetly served up softball interviews, where they get to blatantly without any consequences at all. All they're good at is getting innocent people killed, fuel prices will rise, global instability will get out of hand and the world will suffer. They either don't now what the consequences of launching an unprovoked bombing campaign against Iran are, or they don't care.

All of this is obvious and practically NO ONE in the centrist media has the backbone to publicly call Trump on his obvious malfeasance. They're very good at "analyzing" mundane aspects of the bombing campaign, like all the neat bombs and planes, without discussing the complete lack of moral and legal authority for this horrible attack against a sovereign country.

The media has tripped and fallen into the bottomless pit of utter hypocrisy by justifying the lies about Iranian plans to assassinate Trump, when US and Israeli bombs just decapitated the Iranian leadership. Or the excuse of dropping random bombs on Iran's suspected nuclear facilities, when Trump himself tore up President Obama's agreement with the Iranian Government to dismantle their nuclear programs. The bombs started dropping on Iran at the exact time when a diplomatic discussion was at hand. It's reasonable to believe that Iran was attacked because it was prepared to agree to a diplomatic solution. (Gee, we can't have that.)

It's particularly galling the way that they're also justifying the attack by cursing the Iranian government. Considering that the present Iranian government is ONLY in place, as a response to the US overthrow of the democratically elected Mossedegh government and the CIA's subsequent installation of the Shah and HIS oppressive regime. Who the hell are we, with our own cartoonish penchant for domestic anti-democracy, to dictate how the Iranians rule themselves?

Where are the media talking heads condemning the cynical way that Trump has sacrificed US service people and innocent civilians on both sides? Trump is dropping bombs on the very same Iranians that he claims that he wants to "liberate" from their own leaders. The man is a sundowning pathological narcissist and profligate liar who still waxes poetic about taking over Venezuela and Greenland... As if he cares one iota for the Troops and civilians dying at his hand.

It's horrifying.

And then it really bothers me how the centrist media has become the biggest cheerleaders for US weapons manufactures.

I hate to say this, but this is even more shameful than Bush's attacks against Iraq and Afghanistan.

As much as we're anticipating the utter defeat of congressional Republicans in the midterms, despite an impending Democratic landslide, I've come to the realization that a weak press has validated America's position as a failed state.

I don't see a way out of this.

that's when the U.S. and the Brits overthrew Iran's democratically elected government and installed the shah. (Not that the current government was democratic in any way). If I recall history correctly, the then president of Iran thought the country's resources belonged to the people of Iran and British Petroleum begged to differ.

But we are in the mess we're in today because of what happened 73 years ago.

It ended just before Reagan, when the right began its assault on a free press with lies about ‘the media’ being ‘liberal.’

After that the press stopped telling the truth to appease the right.

Can you imagine if the US is limited to arrogant billionaire types or religious zealots? This is such a clusterfuck.

An interview with the Shah’s son on such short notice after the Ayotolla’s death! No doubt at all that was all pre planned between the White House and their mouthpiece Weiss

The wealthy began plotting to buy them up during the early 1970's. It was recommended by Lewis Powell in the late 1960's.
They've been complicit in the selling out of our democracy to obscenely wealthy owners through their determined pushing of their favorite refrain that " both sides " do bad things and are corrupt.
The Dems are not perfect, but even a cursory study of the facts shows the absurdity of the phrase.
The problem is that those of us who oppose being ruled by plutocrats don't own any bespoke (misnamed) ' news outlets ' to function as gigantic megaphones to indoctrinate the public.
