BREAKING: Four people were killed and seven others were wounded on Feb. 25 after a speedboat from Florida entered Cuban waters and opened fire on Cuban forces, who returned fire, Cuba's Interior Ministry said.

USA TODAY (@usatoday.com) 2026-02-25T21:10:46Z

Applegrove: apparently they were Cuban (Americans?). My best guess is they wanted to start a revolution in order to get control of all the Cuban property that was confiscated from their families by Castro. And they wanted to get on the ground floor of said revolution. Not the first time the thought of untold $$$$ made people crazy. But it's just a guess.

Four people riding in a speedboat registered in the U.S. were killed Feb. 25 in a gunfight with Cuban government forces after entering the country’s waters, according to the Cuban Embassy in the U.S.

Crewmembers aboard a speedboat registered in Florida entered Cuban waters and opened fire on Cuban Ministry of the Interior forces when they approached the American vessel, the Cuban Embassy said in a statement. Aboard the Florida-registered vessel, four were killed and six were injured in the gunfight; the commander of the Ministry of the Interior vessel was wounded in the gunfight, Cuba said.

"In the face of current challenges, Cuba reaffirms its determination to protect its territorial waters, based on the principle that national defense is a fundamental pillar of the Cuban State in safeguarding its sovereignty and ensuring stability in the region," Cuban authorities said. "Investigations by the competent authorities continue in order to fully clarify the events."

Apparently there's such a smuggling network for those who can afford it.

INSANE for doing that.

The Cuban authorities DO NOT mess around.

I’m not defending Cuba or saying the dead deserved to be slaughtered. But that was a foolish thing to do.

but, until I know more about what these US citizens in a speed boat were doing, I am still saying that it was fool hardy of them to even be that close to Cuba.

A speed boat is not a fishing boat. What were they doing?

The State department led by little Marco will spin, not based on facts but rather based on their political ideology.

At some point Americans have to admit that we are no longer a "beacon of freedom," "liberty," and "democracy".

We have become the "bullies of the world" ruled by a corrupt government

Expendable fools/collateral damage. It will be used as an excuse to bomb Cuba or remove their leader, then just leave, like in Venezuela.

"Information from the Cuban government is widely considered by international observers, human rights organizations, and various governments to have low reliability, particularly regarding economic data, human rights practices, and internal security matters."
