MI-04: National committee boosts Democrat McCann's campaign to win Michigan Republican Huizenga's seat

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on Monday named state Sen. Sean McCann to the first round of its “Red to Blue” program, a competitive initiative aimed at helping Democratic candidates defeat incumbent Republicans in key U.S. House races.

McCann, a Democrat from Kalamazoo, is challenging U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-Holland Township) for the state’s 4th Congressional District, which covers parts of southwest Michigan.

The “Red to Blue” program provides candidates with organizational support, fundraising assistance and other resources as national Democrats target seats they see as competitive in the 2026 election cycle.

“Rising costs are crushing Southwest Michigan families, but Bill Huizenga isn’t working for us: he’s working hard to line his own pockets while we fall further behind,” McCann said in a press release. “I’m running for Congress because Bill Huizenga has had plenty of time to make a difference — it’s time someone actually gets results for Southwest Michigan.”
