I am not sure about that. The Daily Show is owned by Paramount which owns CBS, and run by the Ellison trumpers.

But most likely yes he can. The problem is the other major networks have the same issues as CBS or already have late night shows. Hed have to go to streaming, cable, or something else like a podcast.

IIRC, John Stewart only came back for this year. Colbert would be a natural to replace him as host. No "fairness doctrine" applies to non-traditional broadcast media.
