TX-SEN: First Democratic senator backs Talarico in Texas Senate primary

Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) is endorsing Democrat James Talarico in the Texas Senate primary, making the first Senate endorsement in his race against Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas).

Heinrich told Semafor that Talarico is “running a really smart campaign” and making a “very accessible” pitch to voters in the Lone Star State.

The outlet cited another anonymous senator who signaled Talarico is a favorite among Senate progressives, but Heinrich is the first to make his support public.

Talarico and Crockett are locked in a competitive Democratic primary to potentially take on incumbent Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), as their party grows bullish about their chances at the seat long held by the GOP.
