Republicans and independents, and that they would be seen as heroes and skate free. Now they’re waking up to reality, and at this point they’re all in for taking over the elections and ending democracy to keep themselves out of prison.

It's up to us to teach them otherwise.

They think they can rig things to maintain power despite unpopularity because that's how things have mostly been for decades and are trending hard further and further in that direction due to Repug actions to advance that trend.

And they think they can weather any hiccup of being out of power for a bit because they weathered it once already.

One underappreciated aspect of the authoritarian project underway in the United States is the fact that it is an international project with significant foreign government allies and financing. The tech bros signed on because they are subscribe to a Thiel/Yarvin escape from the constraints of democratic governance. For them, our country is a smorgasbord for looting. A weaker, diminished country is less able to hold them to account. If a real reformed government regains power they will simply leave.

That's why they're letting Fuckface remodel the White House while the autocratic psychopaths wield immense power from behind the scenes.

Trump was selected, he got all of the get out of jail free cards, because he's literally nothing more than a glorified figure head. He's a household name and is worldwide famous, and nobody else in that party has that kind of power.

When he goes, the GOP won't have anyone who can carry the party like he has. Trump should be in a home and the conspiracy theorists need to be flushed down the sewer they came from. Authoritarianism is nothing to fuck with.

Not to mention the gerrymandering, voter ID laws, and gutting the Voting Rights Act. They're just getting more desperate and bold.

They absolutely do believe that they’re trying to make it permanent power and if it doesn’t work pardons for everybody. Trump is already stashing money away and overseas bank accounts that can’t be frozen from United States.

And they have no choice.

Let's hope there is enough fight in the courts and the citizens to not allow that to happen.
