Media Matters first reported that Shapiro had addressed Trump's racist meme on his Friday show.
"There's a video that he posted over at Truth Social that apparently contains an image of the Obamas as apes," the MAGA star noted. "Do I think that President Trump even watched the whole video? I have serious doubts. President Trump has a habit of late-night Truthing, where he just sort of gets up at 3 AM, or he's up at 3 AM, and he just starts Truthing things out."
"And I'm almost certain that the president never watches the entirety of any video," he continued. "I don't think he has the attention span to get through any of the videos that he has tweeted. I think he sees that there is something that is pro-Trump, he puts it out there. And if there's an ugly image in there, either he ignores it or he didn't see it in the first place as a general rule."
"Now, does that justify it? It doesn't justify anything, but I think that the suggestion that the president did not watch the entirety of the video and that he just put that out late at night because he watched the first 25 seconds of the video or 40 seconds of the video, I would say that that is extremely high probability."

(177,237 posts)trump can be a racist and also be a person with a very limited attention span

(6,105 posts)But he is still racists because he wouldn't apologize for it.
And it brings a whole other level of irresponsibility to his messaging. You are the POTUS for God's sake. It's bad enough to put out conspiracy nonsense but at least be responsible enough to know the entirety of the message before you endorse it.
An I would add that the fact that he is getting "truths" like that sent to him says a lot about his followers.

(177,237 posts)trump is truly mentally ill. This video was a pure racist attack on the Obamas and had nothing to do with voter fraud, This video is only one minute and two seconds long.
Donald Trump has excused the sharing of a racist video featuring Barack and Michelle Obama to his Truth Social account as it actually details voter fraud.

The president has erroneously claimed for years that the 2020 elections were rigged. His second term in the White House has led to some pressure on mail-in ballots and the repetition of claims that the Democratic Party did not win the 2020 election. Trump's post to Truth Social last week was criticized by politicians, though the president has tried to explain why the video had been shared, The Daily Beast reported.
He told reporters on Thursday, "That was a video on, as you know, on voter fraud. It was a fairly long video, and they had a little piece and it had to do with the Lion King. Its doing very well, uh, its been shown all over the place, long before that was posted.
"But that was a very strong - and Im sure you saw it - a very strong piece on voter fraud, and the piece we were talking about was all over the place, many times I believe, for years."
The video was shared to Trump's Truth Social account at around midnight on February 6, with the current president sharing a host of posts, including this video. Said video runs for one minute and two seconds, with the final seconds of the video depicting Barack and Michelle as animals.
Trump had previously targeted Obama with an artificially generated video of the former president being arrested in the Oval Office. The deepfake video appeared in July last year on the president's Truth Social account.
