Democrats Pushback Against Trump’s Reported Bid To Rename Penn Station And Dulles Airport After Himself

Democratic lawmakers responded with anger and mockery over reports that President Donald Trump told Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., that he is ready to unfreeze billions in funding for a key infrastructure project in New York in exchange for Schumer's support in renaming New York’s Penn Station and Washington's Dulles International Airport after Trump.

The purported offer, first reported by Punchbowl News and later corroborated by CNN and Axios, was made when Schumer held conversations with the White House over New York’s Gateway project.

The White House has put a hold on federal funding for the $16 billion project to connect New York and New Jersey through a new rail tunnel under the Hudson River.

The reports said Schumer quickly rejected the offer and told the president he lacked the authority to make such a change.

The hold on federal funding for the Gateway project remains in effect and officials from New York and New Jersey sued the Trump administration over it earlier this week.

The lawsuit comes as construction work for the tunnel faces an impending shutdown this Saturday, which could result in the loss of over 1,000 jobs...
