Millard West students who held a walkout Wednesday against Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions said they were inspired by similar protests at other Omaha-area high schools.
At 1:30 p.m., students began walking from the school to the intersection of 176th Avenue and Q Street. They held signs with messages like "No ICE" and "Immigrants Make America Great and chanted "ICE Out."
The group had grown to around 50 students by 2:30 p.m. Many cars honked as they drove by, while a few passersby yelled in opposition.
Mattie Davis, a freshman at Millard West, said she and her sister helped organize the walkout and spread the word about it on social media.
