I was never really certain what was wrong with it but it is explained here.
"Using "Democrat" instead of "Democratic Party" (or the adjective "Democratic" to modify words like "agenda" or "policies"
is widely considered poor grammar because it uses a noun in place of the proper adjective. The primary reason it is a point of contention, however, is that this usage is an intentional political slight.
They might just as well say "We aint gonna vote for that bill because we seen it helps people. We here for money so we gonna make the Democrat party look bad so we'ins can look good"

(15,991 posts)It seems to go back to the McCarthy era:
Throughout this time, McCarthy in an eerie prescience suggesting todays conspiracy theories about Democrats drinking childrens blood or Haitian immigrants eating pets argued that the central nexus of the homosexual agenda and the communist sympathizers was the Democrat Party.
Throughout his hearings, carried on live television every day for almost two months, McCarthy refused to use the actual name of the party and its members he was slandering.
Instead, he argued, Democratic sounded too nice, too, well, democratic. McCarthy is sometimes quoted (it may be apocryphal) as saying, in Newt Gingrich Word List fashion, that Republicans should instead always say, Democrat Party, with the emphasis on the rat!
In fact, the slur has persisted. Mitch McConnell refers to the Democrat Party from the well of the Senate. Random Republicans repeat the slur on television more frequently than they use the actual name of the party. Conservative media use it almost exclusively to describe the Democratic Party.

It seems like it was just yesterday when I was watching C-SPAN and heard a caller rail against Bush and invited people to join this website, and here I am, all those years later!

(105,581 posts)"Republican" can be a singular noun, but in that case it ought to be preceded by "a" or "the" (and I doubt you're talking about just one Republican). If you mean it as the possessive of a plural noun, it should be "Republicans' use". If you mean it as an adjective, it should be "Republican use".
The use of a noun in English to stand as an adjective is allowed - eg "The Rose Garden". Or, indeed, "the Liberal Democrat party". Republicans are not committing a grammatical error; they are just using a name for another party which that party does not use itself. How malicious that use is each time is debatable. I'm sure some of them do say it to annoy.
