This is actually a good set of questions by Sen Kennedy. To watch the nominee try and dance around with non-answers, and the way Kennedy responded to his dodge was pretty good. (If you watch to the very end) It appears Kennedy opened the door for the Democrats to go after this person as well.
This nominee should not be allowed to judge a county fair bake-off, much less hold a seat on the federal courts

(24,848 posts)He dances around it with such phrases as, "To use Christ's terms..." and "...called to singleness..." and "...why they don't and not why they shouldn't..."
He claims that he was only explaining the meaning of what Christ said. And that these would not influence his judicial finidings
Kennedy gives the impression that he isn't sure he buys this guys statements
Kennedy then moved to his positions on "sexual perversion" from sermons he gave.

(7,438 posts)from the love they so deserved just by virtue of "being." These xtianists have to be driven from our country at some point. They are every bit as dangerous (if not more so) than their brothers in the Islamic religion... the Islamists. It's a real shame that people can't just let people live their lives without busybodies nosing in on it. And as much good as religion can achieve, the extremists on all fringes just negate it and destroy the foundations, IMO. You don't need religion to be moral and ethical. And people in this country may find themselves being required to find that moral, ethical center without organized religion, if they're not careful.
Thanks for the summary... I appreciate it! Speakers for this system are going to have a wait a while until after christmas and taxes, I'm afraid.

(3,759 posts)most churches regard fornication, defined as sex outside of marriage, as sinful, don't they?.
hell, most fornicators probably believe that as well.

(24,848 posts)Kennedy is a pretty smart guy.
Fornicators is kind of broad term, so I think he's curious how he defines it, and how he makes life decisions based on his beliefs

(3,759 posts)and considerably smarter than the yokel he plays on tv.
they are all republicans who savor any opportunity to interfere in the love life of others.

(24,848 posts)As you said he plays the yokel, but is not
In the Crown he tells the Queen, "I've never done a days manual work in my life. I'm an academic. An Oxford don. Not a worker. I don't like beer. I prefer brandy.... And I don't like pipe smoking. I far prefer cigars.... So I smoke a pipe. On the campaign trail and on television. Makes me more approachable."
This scene reminds me of what he does.
It's a really good scene. Harold Wilson has more decency than Kennedy will ever have. But it is a good watch. The series was magnificent. Well acted. It showed what a horrible wretch Margaret Thatcher was (and how nervy she was)
