The authorities believe the rented vehicle is the same make and model of a car identified in connection with the shooting of the M.I.T. professor in Brookline, Mass., the official said.

I'm guessing they have new video from Brookline that they can connect with some video from Providence.
Curiouser and curiouser, anyway.
As I said the other day, we might have a mix between Andrew Cunanan and Ted Kaczynski on our hands here. Head on a swivel, New England.

However, she and the MIT professor are both Jewish.

(7,213 posts)1) The Brown classroom seemed to have been chosen at random, or at least there's no evidence that it wasn't. It was simply nearest to the door on the old side of the building, nearest to the street. The professor of the economics class wasn't in the room; it was a study session being run by an undergraduate teaching assistant. Finally, there's never been any evidence presented that the classroom used for the study session is the same classroom used for the course itself. So, there's no real evidence for targeting or relevance when it comes to the Brown professor.
2) Is there actual evidence that the MIT professor was Jewish? I've seen suggestions that that was a rumor started by a right wing Substack. I've not seen any good sourcing on that. Definitely curious to see the sourcing.

(7,213 posts)The building in which the economics review session was being held is an Engineering and Physics building at Brown. Since the shooter appears to have targeted simply the first classroom he came across, there's no reason to believe he was targeting an economics class (or professor) and every reason to believe he was targeting engineers.
The professor at MIT was a professor of engineering and physics, specifically nuclear physics.
On Edit: Changed "in fact" to "apparently" in the title. I don't actually know whether the targeting was a fact!
