WASHINGTON White House pressure to ramp up deportations has sparked rising tension and finger-pointing inside the Department of Homeland Security, with the agencys secretary, Kristi Noem, and her top adviser blaming subordinates for not hitting arrest quotas and undermining their relationships inside the West Wing, according to two DHS officials with direct knowledge of the matter.
Noem and her close adviser Corey Lewandowski have sought to deflect blame from themselves for any White House frustration with the pace and scope of the deportations, pinning it instead on the leaders of the agencies in charge of immigration enforcement acting ICE Director Todd Lyons and Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott, the DHS officials said.
Underscoring the turmoil, Scott recently expressed concern to colleagues that Lewandowski is able to monitor his emails, the two officials and another DHS official said, sparking concern among other top staffers that their messages were being reviewed.
Everyone in leadership is so worried about what they say in email and text, one of the top staffers said.

(22,021 posts)Because of Trumps dismal polling on his handling of immigration, raids are to be reduced and only target actual dangerous criminals, as was originally announced.
These conflicting reports seem to indicate some serious infighting over immigration, and Im sure these leaks are coming from various camps that have axes to grind and want to force out those who oppose their position.
My guess: its Susie Wiles (dial back raids to mitigate political damage) vs, Stephen Miller (Noem is failing to meet quotas and must go).

(7,181 posts)It's a clear sign of leadership vacuum at the top. Stephen Miller and Cheung are screaming at DHS and floating Noem firing, while Wiles is trying for a softer approach. Miller and Cheung are high on their own supply. Wiles has Johnson and Thune in her ear nonstop.
Trump, a demented old fool, can't sort it, because he's out to lunch. And the lunch is strained apples and prune juice.

(12,561 posts)Notice all the heavily armed, all decked out in full military battle attire, real brave heros out in masses from multiple agencies, to capture yet another murdering asshole, not a single God Damned one of them needed a mask. Not at all afraid to chase down real criminals, that are armed as well, and already proved they will shoot back to kill.
These brave law enforcers are not making $80,000 a year, with thousands in bonuses to brutalize women, children and old men, and innocent citizens.
And they are not at all afraid to show their faces like the coward fucking trump/miller/Noem patrol.
Because they follow the law, to protect us and put their damn lives on the line to do it.
Just saying!
