For far more years than any of us care to remember, the Republican party has enjoyed a completely unearned polling advantage on the economy.
It has never really made any sense. In almost any metric you want to measure, Democrats have been better for the economy.

But Republicans have a long history of branding themselves as the party that favors lower taxes, fewer regulations, and budget deficit reduction, which is perceived by many voters as pro-business and growth-oriented. It has worked...until now.
Pro-business Republicans had a pretty good thing going if you are into doing things that are horrible for the average worker while lining your own pockets with tax cuts and the blood, sweat, and tears of your workforce--all the while blowing up the budget deficit and somehow pushing all the blame to those "tax-and-spend" Democrats that want to do evil things like HELP people afford food, housing, and healthcare.
But along came MAGA.
Interestingly, MAGA was really enabled and fueled by the earlier TEA Party movement which emerged from the aftermath of Democrats' audacity to take a conservative concept on healthcare--because single-payer was never going to pass the Congress--that was created by the Heritage Foundation and implemented by their own 2012 Republican presidential candidate--Mitt Romney--in Massachusetts where he was governor and shape it into something that they could pass nationally.
Turnip 1.0 was curbed in large part by the establishment and the COVID-19 pandemic, but the lesson from those years in office taught him well how to dismantle the guardrails that forced his first administration to be more like the old-guard Republican party which--while horrible for it--successfully obfuscated their damage to the economy.
Turnip 2.0 is full-on MAGAnomics--as led by fake research, "feelings", and conspiracies as you would think it would be. And the results are about as bad as his spray tan and the concealer job on his bruised hand.
The 31% approval rating that the Administration gets on the economy in the latest AP-NORC poll is driven by only 7% approval among Democrats and 15% approval among independents.

Fully 93% of Democrats and 83% of independents disapprove of the results of the economic policies of the Administration, and apparently lying about it doesn't magically make it any better for the people unlucky enough to know how much they are spending on keeping their family afloat.
Will this end up being a long-term stain on the Republican party at large? That remains to be seen. But the longer Republicans sit on their hands and allow MAGAnomics to flush the economy Biden handed them down the toilet the more danger they are in of finally being correctly branded as the party that does not know how to manage the economy.

Hate and cult affiliation go a very long way, like an addiction, and it's difficult to see the obvious, or it takes forever.
