Megyn Kelly cant believe Charlie Kirk was not named Time magazines Person of the Year.
On Thursdays episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, the host fumed over the fact that the 2025 Person of the Year was not even a single person at all but rather the architects of AI. She railed against the decision not to posthumously award Kirk with the distinction following his assassination in September.
Its fking AI. Its AI architects, Kelly said. Its not Charlie Kirk, which is so obvious its as obvious as the nose on your face. And dont tell me, detractors, Oh, he was too controversial. Thats not it. Theyve gone for extremely controversial people and villains in the past. Its always and often come down to people like Vladimir Putin, the Ayatollah. Weve had very controversial people make it or almost make it. And not only did Charlie not get chosen, he wasnt even one of the honorable mentions. Yeah, Putin won it in 2007.
She added: This is a thumb in the eye, and its genuinely wrong. Like, AI architects are not the most influential people of the year. To ignore what happened with Charlie Kirk in September and the worldwide revival of faith that followed his assassination is to ignore reality based on your own politics.

(84,706 posts)Also, it's not even close on impact. The AI execs have had a much bigger year when you combine technical advances with them kissing up to Trump. Kirk gained additional notoriety for being murdered by some other lunatic in his camp.

It's just how our news cycle is now. I think we're just too anesthetized because of the nonstop stream of shit that flows on the daily.

(2,249 posts)It seems like so many people act like they loved or hated the guy, and that he was some huge figure in their lives. I think most of us didn't even know who the fuck he was.
I know this is just an anecdote, and not evidence, but I was in a waiting room with about a dozen other people when the news about his death came on TV. None of us knew who he was. When they started showing some of his clips, I remembered he was 'the guy that argued with college kids'.
He's pretty much just famous because he got shot.
