.....A frozen ship covered in thick ice reaches Duluth after facing intense subzero temperatures

You can't really see a good shot of the ship until about 8:00

A frozen ship covered in thick ice reaches Duluth after facing intense subzero temperatures and freezing spray on Lake Superior. The Great Lakes freighter H. Lee White arrived coated bow to stern in thick ice formed during one of the coldest days of the Minnesota winter season.

This live stream captured the arrival on December 4, 2025, as steam hovered over the lake surface and the bow appeared sculpted by extreme wind and cold. The frozen railings, iced deck, and heavily coated bow reveal the reality of winter navigation and the challenges crews face pushing through dangerous conditions while operating on Lake Superior during winter shipping.

My grandfather was the captain of a Great Lakes ore ship in the '20s and '30s, and somewhere among the family photos is a picture of his ship almost completely covered with ice.

I saw the last ore boat come into harbor many years ago once. A couple of the crew were on deck. The look of exhaustion on their faces made a lasting impression.

Apologies for the Facebook post... but this is an incredible photo from "Schauer Photo Images" of the harbor with fog.
