Oh well, it just gets better,

Sunday morn, I'm just done with my morning bathroom stint, when I woke up on floor, I hurt like all hell. I struggled on to the bed, got dressed and drove to ER.
Broken collar bone, but still in hosp.
Every time I stand up, my BP drops like a ton of bricks. Sitting on bed , normal, 120ish over mid 80s, stand up and this morning when PT was here, it got down to 64/40 before I told PT I needed to sit.
It has been dropping to the high 80s over 60s but we always quit early, today he pushed it, and I felt the black out coming on.
I just want some normalcy again.

Crossing fingers for you.
I have hypertension and having worked shipyards in the past, it's getting worse as I get older and the gunk I was exposed is starting to work it's way into my heart and lungs.
Sounds like your VA is pretty decent. Take care.

Note, that's hypo-, not hyper-tension.

This should be easy to diagnose, whatever the cause. I hope they get to root cause and can provide treatment.

He had just started pain killers for a painful back injury and decided to take Viagra for a "date night". His blood pressure plummeted so low, he couldn't drive and could hardly walk upright without risking a fall.

His back improved drastically and he went off the pain killers. The weekly Viagra use no longer caused low BP.

I wonder if the OP, kozar, has examined their medicines and supplements to look for interactions. Dehydration is an issue for lots of people, too.

My mom was having dizziness and drove to her doctor the same day I was having my checkup. My doctor waltzes into my exam room and says We don't need an ambulance because you can drive your mom to the hospital. Turned out she needed a pacemaker. She was at the same age, 82, her father was when he died in his sleep from his heart just stopping. She lived till the age of 96. So I bring this up because if that's what you need, it's nothing to be scared about. I know other people who suddenly became more active after getting one.

Some thoughts: on blood thinners? Taking potassium? BP meds? If BP drops with standing may need to contract lower body muscles to push blood recirculation— rhythmically. Consult with cardiologist.

where my bp sank getting up. One of my doctor's suggested I take salt pills. I don't remember much about whether it worked quickly or well because it was so long ago. Now I have regular bp and sometimes it goes high.

I’ve found that the color green can perk me up, or help me focus on healing. I keep an inexpensive green scarf tied to my purse strap. If you’ve got a scarf or shirt or wristband or some such item, it can remind you about this every time you look at it.

Known to bring on orthostatic hypotension — when one stands up, the tendency for blood pressure to drop sometimes leading to the person dropping (to the floor) along with it

The cocktail of heart meds after an arrhythmic event “echoed a lot” across family members. One of them had a particular problem with this drug, falling and hitting his head a couple of times after he started taking it. It’s a known side effect.

My layman’s simplistic comprehension of what the drug does is slows the response of the heart to reduce the chance of arrhythmias, but when you stand up your heart naturally needs to respond so that it can maintain blood pressure and pump blood up your body to your head. A drug that delays that response can allow the blood pressure to drop dangerously low.

Try a vitamin K2 with a low dose D3. Helps bone strength. Make sure it doesn’t interfere with any meds you take now.

I found myself at the base of the stairs to my basement. Blood on my head already dried. I have no memory of the fall or even going to the basement.

Undergoing all kinds of testing, CAT scans, MRI, wearing monitors to check my heart rhythms, other stuff. Still no cause, but I do get dizzy when I stand up (orthostatic hypotension, BP dips to 80/60, heart rate in the 40s).

Good luck on your recovery.

it's called orthostatic hypotension. Get up much more slowly, ground before taking a step. There is also a medication called Midodrine that will help correct the issue. I'm so sorry you fell and broke your body. During Mr. WT's last fall he broke his neck. Do be so careful. I hope you find a resolution to your issue. Get well soon

My husband had a seizure that I think was caused by that same issue. But while in the hospital they focused on his COPD. He was dehydrated when he came in and they pumped him full of fluids. They wouldn't let us leave the hospital without oxygen. So, after holding us hostage for 8 hours they got all that set up. He is a veteran too and the VA will only give you those big ass tanks of O2. So now we have a house full of O2 torpedos. After being home for 2 days we found he didn't need oxygen. But, he tried to smoke again and when he came back into the house he was confused and couldn't answer my questions. I took his blood pressure and it was super low and his heart was racing. But his oxygen was 92. I threatened him with execution if he smoked again. He still tried after that with the same results by lighting up butts. So I got rid of all of those. We have tons of specialists appts coming up. They put him on anti seizure meds that they did the last time this happened in 2022. I did the compression socks and some liquid IV which is like Pedialyte and sunflower seeds. He's not smoking, but he isn't a very happy person right now. But he's not having seizures, so I am relieved. You might want to put rails on your bed or put your mattress on the floor. Good luck with all of this. It helped me see that we are not alone. Hang on there Koz.
