Taliban makes 13-year-old boy execute killer before 80,000 crowd

Afghanistan’s Taliban made a 13-year-old carry out a public execution in front of thousands of onlookers, shooting a man who had killed more than a dozen members of the boy’s family.

An estimated 80,000 people gathered at a sports stadium in the southeastern province of Khost to witness the horrific spectacle, condemned by the UN as “inhuman and cruel”.

The convicted murderer, called Mangal, and two others had been found guilty of killing 13 members of the teenager’s family, including several children and women.

The killer was sentenced to ‘Qisas’ - a retaliation punishment under Sharia law similar to the Biblical principle of ‘an eye for an eye’.

The Supreme Court said the victims’ relatives were given the chance to forgive and reconcile – a move that would have spared the man’s life – but authorities said they instead insisted on the death penalty.

For three years. It was common to have executions in the square in Riyadh. They wanted you to watch.

i can appreciate the logic of encouraging the families to negotiate. not much difference from plea bargaining.

as for wanton cruelty bordering on sadism? maybe we have a lot to work on right here at home.

this is only the eleventh execution in afghanastan this year. they seem to have convicted the right guy and the mass killing is, if any, a crime most would probably consider worthy of the strictest punishment. usa, judged by those standards, might not look very good.

Getting your horse stolen then would result in job loss and/or any possibility of taking care of yourself or family.
IOW, it was a damn serious crime. I wish penalties for thieving (and I'm talking here about the white collar kind) were
much more serious - not hanging of course - but financial dismemberment for the worst fraudsters. Alas, we are now a nation
of men - not laws.

He stepped it up because Afghanistan was not killing enough of their own citizens.

Did they force him to do it or did he want to do it? Either way, I think it will haunt him for the rest of his life.
