The butterfly for Bluesky that you see is from Bill Madden's account. He posted the screenshot. The gray government verification below for Newsom's press office shows it's from X. Bluesky just uses blue checkmarks for all verified accounts.

I didn't go by that at all. I looked at https://bsky.app/profile/govpressoffice.gov.ca.gov (see my above post).

You may be right that he posted on an X account with the address @GovPressOffice
(there's 50 governors in the U.S. -- why would a state government choose an X account name that is so vague?)

and not at Blue Sky

or at the https://www.gov.ca.gov/category/press-releases/

I think it's more likely that the X account is fake.

That Bluesky account for Newsom's press office has only 8.2K followers.

The X account, which has been the official account since 2013, has 673.9K followers.

That's why they're more concerned with posting on X, where they reach nearly 100x as many people.

You're going to miss a hell of a lot of official messages if you think only the Bluesky accounts are official. AOC, for instance, and a !ot of other Democratic politicians still use X much more than Bluesky.

There are no fake accounts on Elon Musk's platform with verified checkmarks on them that claim to be official accounts? None whatsoever?

Up thread we've been discussing this particular account in a couple of roundy-rounds. This is not a new revelation to us.

On the other hand, I'm pretty much convinced it's real from the Axios and ABC links that highplainsdem supplied above.

I have no regrets whatsoever in raising the issue, and certainly no regrets about not automatically giving a helluva lot of credence Elon Musk's website checkmarks. But now that we have some strong evidence that it's a real account from other than Musk&Co, I'm pretty much convinced.

I think the official https://www.gov.ca.gov website should have a list of their official social media accounts and links, but I can't find any such. It might be there somewhere; it's a vast website. Some organizations that I'm familiar with do have such for just such situations, since impostor websites and accounts are numerous.
