Florida is now the 2nd most financially distressed state in the US -- topped only by Texas, Google helps reveal

With prices rising on everything from groceries to rent amid a backdrop of economic uncertainty, many Americans are struggling to pay the bills.

-snip-

But some states are struggling more than others. Florida is now one of the most financially stressed states in the country, second only to another Southern state, according to a new report by WalletHub, which defines financial distress as having credit in forbearance or deferring payments due to financial difficulty.

-snip-

Here are the five states struggling the most and why people there are having such a tough time.

The top 5 financially distressed states

Texas is the most financially distressed state in the country, followed by Florida, Louisiana, Nevada and South Carolina. The states that are best off? That honor goes to Hawaii, followed by Vermont, Alaska, Oregon and New Mexico.

Republicans. You think that the people in those states would smarten up and stop voting these assholes in.

things like Education, social services, anything that helps people, even refusing available funds from the Feds - a rich state, always grouped at the bottom with poor states Alabama and Mississippi.

since about the 1990's, when the repugs really gained control. During the 1970's, Texas was about the middle- not great, but not bad. That was when it was mostly dem controlled.

I had the chance to move out of Texas before things really went to shit, but had to move back due to family issues. Would have preferred to stay where I had moved, and would love to move back, but it's on the west coast, so way out of our budget. Maybe if we win the megamillions or powerball, lol, we'll be able to move back.

been diverted by DHS from hurricane recovery to building detention camps for anyone who gets caught in the net.

Public facilities are not being reimbursed for their responses to the emergencies -- dating to hurricane Idalya (2023) and the three 2024 storms -- hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton. Our Trumpster legislators are ignoring us.

No state can withstand the impact of both DeSantis and djt. Believe we're in worse shape than Texas.

Our homeowner's insurance has tripled in the last 3 years - despite us getting a new roof and not being in a flood zone. Then, when homes are damaged in hurricanes, the ins. cos pay them a fraction of what it will take to repair their home.

People cannot afford to insure their homes. Prices have been steadily rising, groceries in particular.

Tourism is down. Many FL communities depend on tourism revenue. A friend has neighbors who are Canadian snowbirds. They've been wintering here for years. They are selling their FL home because of how badly they've been treated since that thing in the White House started with his Canada hate (did I mention we're in MAGA world?).

Our schools are in the toilet; young families are moving out of state because they know the public education system is failing - another "devious" plan by Gov. Meathead and his minions.

When I say Florida is a hellmouth, I am not kidding.

This is in Michigan. She told the cashier that she moved from Florida because she has three kids in school and said she was appalled at how awful the school system is there.

Wait until the layoffs at Kennedy Space Center are announced after Labor Day. It's reported that IT wants 6,000 people gone.

4/5 of those are solid red. Nevada is purple.

4/5 of those are blue.

See a pattern?
