"This isn't about public safety. It's about stroking a dangerous President's ego," Newsom said.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Trump authorized on Monday the deployment of an additional 2,000 National Guard members to help respond to protests in Los Angeles over immigration raids, according to U.S. officials.

The order would put them on active duty. One official warned, however, that the order was just signed and it could take a day or two to get troops moving.

Gov. Gavin Newsom called the move reckless and “disrespectful to our troops” in a post on the social platform X.

“This isn’t about public safety. It’s about stroking a dangerous President’s ego,” Newsom said.

Hopefully he now understands why he should never have headed to the viper’s nest in Florida.

Of course TACO Donald ALWAYS needs his ego stroked. That's a given, but not the primary motivation for sending in armed troops.

It's about pushing the envelope of wielding authoritarian POWER.

First and foremost, expanding and holding onto power is the goal of dictators, fascists, and authoritarians of every stripe.

Trump is salivating over the prospect of declaring martial law, and is using any pretext to exert military control on the ground.

This regime will do anything to prevent Democrats from gaining control of Congress in the 2026 elections. It wants and needs violence in the streets, and is determined to provoke it. I have no doubt false flag actors like the Proud Boys will infiltrate protest crowds to commit acts of violence to justify intensified military confrontations with citizens standing up for our democracy.

What happened on Jan 6, 2021 was unthinkable -- until it happened.

We are in an existential Constitutional crisis that was inevitable the moment the Orange Felon was given a 2nd term.

This evil cabal will NOT relinquish power until forced to do so. Guardrails have been removed. Hegseth fired the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to be replaced by operatives that place loyalty to Dear Leader above their sworn oath to our Constitution.

I know he’s a popular punching bag here but nobody on this forum has some special insight insight that he doesn’t also have.

Not looking to punch him, just articulating my view on the motivation for sending troops.

And yes, I don't doubt he knows this is an authoritarian power play -- though I'm not sure why he declared the motive was ego stroking.

There is a YUGE difference between the motive Newsom stated (ego stroking) and the motive I articulated (expanding authoritarian power).

You of course are free to disagree.
