AOC's Hilarious Six-Word Response About Trump And Musk's Breakup Is Going Mega Viral

We're on day two post-breakup.

At this point, we need to remember the "good times." Six months is quite the accomplishment, and honestly, waaay longer than we all thought it would last.

One person who had some thoughts about it was AOC.

Here six-word response about it is going viral:

The Girls Are Fighting is a catchphrase used to joke about people falling out with each other publicly. The phrase was popularized by a 2019 video of American singer Azealia Banks commenting on the feud between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B in which she says, "Whaaat? What is the tea, the girls are fighting! Nooo… the girls are fighting, why?!" The Instagram Live became a notable reaction video in subsequent years, while the phrase "the girls are fighting" came to be used to joke about former friends having public disagreements.

the mainstream, it's possible to find that catchphrases, metaphors, memes and tropes that on their surface seem to apply to one gender or another actually are not being used in a sexist way. "The girls are fighting" has its origins in drag culture. OTOH, it's true that some find drag sexist, so.

I’m seeing a bunch of people leaping to scold her for using those words.

It doesn’t mean that she hates women or she’s deriding them or whatever. It’s a fucking meme that’s been around for years and made popular by RuPaul’s drag race.

It’s why people hate a certain segment of the left. They’re so fucking uptight about everything. Chill people.

If AOC had used that phrase about women then it could possibly be construed as sexist BUT she used it to describe two very sexist men who deserve to be mocked by women as often as possible. AOC used her platform to make fun of the two most powerful misogynists in the world and the internet is here for it.

The catchphrase AOC used is not specific to one gender and has been around for years, it's part of pop culture and her use of it in this context was dead on. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

As the article points out, she's imitating Azealia Banks' commentary about an altercation between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B.

https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/the-girls-are-fighting

On September 8th, 2018, Azealia Banks hosted an Instagram Live reacting to Nicki Minaj and Cardi B engaging in a public altercation at New York Fashion Week, using a bunny filter to record herself saying, "Whaaat? What is the tea, the girls are fighting! Nooo… the girls are fighting, why?!"

They can perceive actual offense. But maybe they could also go read ‘Fahrenheit 451’; a quest to purge all commentary that could be perceived as offensive by anyone doesn’t end at a happy destination. Even more so when the intent and context of the original statement is ignored or supplanted.

May I please interject that I have spent the last 25 years hearing women tell me that Generals of the Army and Admirals of the Navy with their weapons of war are “boys with toys”, that there’s “too much testosterone” for humankind’s own good, that men “are the problem”, that if men had to endure mammograms or childbirth yada yada yada.

Does anyone here think that these are sexist expressions, that men “deserve” these appellations because of their past history? Do I ever see this question asked? Of course, not… We take them as how there are intended and move on to have civilized discussions.

We all know exactly what the congresswoman meant when she said that with a smile and it is a very common takedown of males, and I have spent a career listening to black women describe their husbands, boyfriends, family members who are male as “girls“ in one context or another. I personally think it’s a riot and when people make fun of men, I think it’s a riot.Of course, there are those who would watch a film like The Birdcage and take offense. Really. Come on…

The tragically-deceased comedian Richard Lewis early in his career had a very funny shtick. To paraphrase it went like this: ok ok ok, somewhere there’s an Asian guy who doesn’t have a camera strap on his neck, and ok ok ok, somewhere there’s a Jewish guy who likes to pick up the check for the whole table, and somewhere….etc. it was FUNNY. AOC is funny.

As was stated in another film: Lighten up, Francis.
