WASHINGTON — Looking at new ways to pay for their sprawling bill for President Donald Trump’s domestic agenda, Republicans are exploring ideas to slash “waste, fraud and abuse” in Medicare, several senators said Thursday.

And President Donald Trump has blessed the pursuit, they said.

“I think anything that can be — that’s waste, fraud and abuse are open to, obviously, discussions,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., told reporters.

He said that Republicans have primarily looked at Medicaid to find savings but that they’re open to looking at other programs, too.

“The focus, as you know, has been on addressing waste, fraud, abuse within Medicaid and, but right now, we’re open to suggestions that people have them about other areas where there is, you know, clearly, waste, fraud and abuse that can be rooted out in any government program,” Thune said.

Medicare has historically been seen as political third rail, a program members of both parties have been wary of touching in fear of backlash from older voters.

while i admit it's been nice to see discord among republicans, they always find a way to come together, and invariably it's at the expense of ordinary people.

as bad as donnie's bill was to begin with, the biggest objections on the hill were from hard-line republicans who want to cut spending even more and do further damage to the safety net.

i imagine they'll make government programs markedly worse in order to reduce the increase in debt from 2.4 trillion to maybe 1.8 trillion, whatever. more pain for more people and the result will still blow a massive hole in the budget anyway.

Cut military budget a little and fix SS for the next generation

Increase taxes on the top earners like we did after WWII and earmark it towards debt repayment

Eliminate Citizens United and try and take the money out of politics

Stop subsidizing industries that are contributing to Climate Change, they are already profitable

And here is a big one.....

Stop making the US news look like a version of the National Enquirer by electing people that are batshit crazy and we have lots of examples.
