This could be a big deal for a lot of people:
In his budget plan for fiscal year 2026, President Donald Trump has proposed cutting a total of $32.9 billion in funding to HUD. The plan includes a $26.7 billion cut to federal rental aid approximately 40% of the total and would essentially end Section 8 and other housing voucher programs, according to NPR.
Instead of providing aid at the federal level, the budget proposes creating a grant program to send rental assistance funds to states. It would terminate many federal regulations, incentivize states and the private sector to provide affordable housing and work in tandem with efforts to open public lands to development.

The story is a few weeks old. I think Trump is creating the perfect storm for mass homelessness. With the advance of AI and the tariff economy, more and more people are going to be unemployed. Consumer debt is going up. Rents are increasing. Some people say "There's always section 8 housing" but it takes a long time to qualify and guess what - its on his hit list.
What are people going to do when jobs run out, when there is no more federal assistance for food or health care or housing? Just die in the streets?

(89 posts)He also wants riots, street crime and gang fights nationwide as people struggle to afford the basics of survival for themselves and their families. Citizens of color have wisely declined to join demonstrations against the monsters, refusing to give them a racist excuse to call out police violence. I bet they think Section 8/HUD affects mostly black people. I got news for these ignorant hateful M_F_Rs. Section8/HUD subsidizes independent housing for disabled and retired folks of all ages, and when they are thrown on the streets or housed by relatives, the blowback will be immense! Many women of a certain age worked years for paltry wages, interrupted by years spent raising children, and most of us live on a pittance. Lack of access to living wages and decent health care has impoverished many families of working, elderly and disabled people. It will be a scene from Dantes Hell. Calcutta indeed!
I remember the shock of Republicans when Clinton/Reich got the economy humming, employment and wages increased, and crime dropped to the lowest level in 20 years. It disproved the generational poverty bias, and the Greedy Old Pigs responded with Lewinsky and the blue dress to shove it down the memory hole! No one would choose crime over a stable living wage job unless they were the kind of sociopathic cruel sh_th_ds who are currently running our government. They are incapable of concieving of any other way to live, and want to push the rest of us into the same mode of thinking! RESIST!
