Expert: House budget bill would hurt older Americans, children, rural areas

https://app.publicnewsservice.org/story/expert-house-budget-bill-would-hurt-older-americans-children-rural-areas/73d3096e-3135-4c15-a736-4021cefc7f00

. . .

Nathan Boucher, associate professor in medicine, nursing, and public policy at Duke University, said if the Medicaid cuts make it through the Senate, people in rural areas will be impacted greatly.

...
My concern is that not just individuals will be hurt by this," said Boucher, "but the hospitals will be hurt by this, because they will have a degraded mechanism for which to bill for a lot of these patient care services."

Boucher said when people lack the health coverage provided by Medicaid, they often delay care due to being unable to pay, and the cost is passed on to taxpayers.

...
Boucher said cuts to Medicaid will impact older Americans, because of the program's role in long-term care. He said the bill de-prioritizes support for home care, which could force more older Americans into institutions.

Boucher said the bill also divides control of services for older adults, scattering them among multiple agencies.

"What that in effect does is decrease the effectiveness of the services and benefits that are covered under the Older Americans Act," said Boucher, "and is going to make it more difficult for people to be referred to services, for services to be paid for, for services to be coordinated."

...is relevant to me. It's not a poll, not propaganda from Republicans or admonitions from Democrats, or crap from Fox or MSNBC, but rather facts from a public news service and a Duke researcher.

It's the kind of stuff I bookmark and try to keep somewhere for those reasons.

That said, this isn't something new. Private equity firms and their spawn have been gutting, chop-shopping and closing rural hospitals and clinics for decades now.

What the Big Bullshit Bill does is simply install greased skids and a rocket booster on a process that's well underway.
