The true cost of Trump’s massive military parade seems to keep getting worse
The president’s expensive — and literally destructive — parade is poised to inflict destruction on the streets of Washington next weekend.

NBC News reported recently on some of the destruction that the June 14 parade — a seemingly frivolous pet project to celebrate 250 years of the U.S. Army that just so happens to fall on Trump’s birthday — stands to inflict on Washington’s streets:

The cost to repair Washington, D.C., streets after the upcoming military parade celebrating the Army’s 250th anniversary could cost as much as $16 million, according to U.S. military officials.

That’s part of an estimated $45 million total cost for the June 14 military parade, which coincides with President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday. The cost estimates have fluctuated as planning continues.

And that’s taxpayer money being spent as Trump withholds tens of millions of dollars allocated for things like climate change studies and other research grants, or any number of federal programs that stand to benefit a large number of Americans — certainly more so than a military parade.

And now, in 2025, nothing has changed, but he doesn't care. 16 MILLION that would NOT have to be spent if this never happened. 16 MILLION that could help kids, veterans, the elderly...everyone facing program cuts...that we'd have to spend to fix the streets after spending $45 MILLION to "honor" a draft dodger, rapist, and felon.

Remember they are taking measures (using steel plates at turning points) to try to minimize the damage, but it's entirely possible their mitigation efforts don't work as well as they hope and the damage is far greater than they expect.

If it's something he wants and demands, to try to "sell" it to the people the costs will always be at the lowest level possible. That's a given.

This just jacks my jaws. I'm a Viet Nam era veteran. As a draft dodger, he should not have anything military associated with him, I don't care if he is CnC. He certainly isn't MY president and if he knew anything about me, I'd be on his hit list. He certainly isn't the president to what... over 70 million US citizens? Nor does he try to be. He's a draft dodging asshole who had someone else sent to Viet Nam instead of himself... at that early age, he was already sending men to war to die for him. Rotten apples are rotten apples for all time.

if the Army sent a lot of vehicles that won't start to Washington and none that will. Or if they decided to not send any tracked vehicles and just sent up a bunch of cargo trucks.

The Secret Service will strip search every inch of every turret. Also, there won’t be a main gun firing pin within a thousand clicks of the parade route and the 240 and M2 weapons will be in their arms rooms.

to provide places for the troops to sleep leading up to the parade.

What a way to pay respect to our Army personnel on their 250th anniversary than having them sleep in offices.

they get some off the books leave afterwards. I was in one parade while in the Navy. Three days of prep, dress whites etc. Three hours on the field and the Admiral spent a few minutes checking us out.

Hours wasted practicing and rehearsing. More hours wasted spiffing up a uniform that was otherwise never worn. More hours wasted standing around waiting for instructions. Hours taken away from much more useful work and activities.

A retirement or change-of-command ceremony was bad enough, but a parade was at least 10x worse.

(At least at the last retirement ceremony I had to attend had a little levity...it was the mid-70's, and we were all standing at attention in the parade field when they started the music. One of the selections was "The Liberty Bell March". Think about it for just one second - it's the late 70's, a bunch of mostly 17 to 20-somethings all standing at attention, when the Monty Python theme music starts. You could see the shoulders heaving as half the troops tried to suppress laughter. A few were unsuccessful at suppression. All the while, the older folks with scrambled eggs on their hat brims on the reviewing stand are wondering what the hell was going on in the ranks to elicit such a reaction. Priceless! I think that the majority of us were all hoping for a giant foot to come down from the sky to put a final point on the event.)

From the Recent Past

The August Coup: The Soviet Plan to Overthrow Gorbachev

In 1991, tanks rolled down the streets of Moscow. This was the August coup, an attempt by the remaining Soviet hardliners to bring down Mikhail Gorbachev.

On the hot summer morning of the 19th of August, the citizens of Russia woke up to find every TV channel broadcasting a recording of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. This unseasonal broadcast was then drowned by the very real noise of tanks thundering down the wide Moscow streets. Was WWIII finally breaking out? What was happening? This was the August coup, the attempt of certain hardliners to keep the Soviet Union alive and seize power from Mikhail Gorbachev...

Question is, will the "value" of trump's narcissistic birthday parade be appreciated by the taxpayers who will be footing the $71 million tab when they can't afford day-to-day necessities for their own families that trump only takes for granted.

It's time for Karma to make its entrance. He wasn't brought up right to know right from wrong; he's strictly a taker who's concerned about only himself. He's mentally ill, & after everything I've seen, I believe more than ever that trump stole this election to get the revenge he could only dream about -- and, apparently, he's willing to step on his own voters to get what he wants. He's ugly inside and out.
