Florida meteorologist halts forecast to give dire on-air warning against Trump

By Sarah K. Burris
Published June 3, 2025 11:28 AM ET

Miami meteorologist John Morales‬ issued a dire warning Monday about hurricane season as it begins this month.

He began with a clip of Hurricane Dorian slowly moving due west directly towards Florida in 2019. Morales promised it would turn north and dodge Florida landfall — and that's exactly what it did.

But he said that kind of forecasting would be impossible this year.

https://www.rawstory.com/hurricane-season-forcasting-noaa-nws/

Then maybe he should and could have said if you voted to cut and gut the NOAA and got your team in office.............don't blame me look in the mirror..............and then ask will my / your home owner insurance get cut...............

But isn't it too little too late?

And would anyone in Florida really listen anyway?

I like it when people speak out, but in a state full
of Magats and crazy people, i guess it's like trying
to fight a hurricane with an umbrella.

Moving just isn't really an option so we make the best of it and try to enlighten our neighbors when an opportunity arises.

And honestly, making broad generalization does more harm than good. Florida only went for tRump 56 - 43 so definitely not one of the reddest of red states.

and there are few people more critical of the state and its culture. I grew exhausted by it decades ago and were it not for my disability and my wife's anxiety disorder, I would have been gone years ago. I have tried and tried endlessly to talk her into relocating and she won't do it, even though she constantly claims to hate it.

The constant barrage of ignorance and hatred here is oppressive. I feel outnumbered, disenfranchised and endangered.

Many people respond to criticism of the South by pointing to the problematic beliefs and behaviors in other regions. That might be the case but I know what it is like to live here and it is discouraging. So many of the residents are consumed by social division, unearned arrogance and willful ignorance that dealing with them is burdensome.

It’s actually a pretty diverse state with lots of good people. I’ve watched them help each other over the last 3 years through several hurricanes. They are friendly and smile and say hello way more often than where I lived up north. Perhaps next time you should talk about something you might know about.

This sort of thing happens way too Goddamned often here at DU---I know that for a fact, because I'm a lifelong Texas Democrat. The fact that 4.8 million Texans voted for Kamala Harris doesn't seem to matter to a certain segment of DU participants.

Democrats will never win back a state by labeling and dismissing all of its residents as a bunch of "Magats and crazy people." Considering the way trump is stumbling and failing, we can't afford that kind of careless thinking.

I think hell will freeze over here before my neighbors will ever vote for a "Demon-crat". I just don't see it happening. Sadly, these same people were once mostly all "dixiecrats" like most of the South. The party has been vilified so much since the Bush era here in Texas, not sure if it will ever change. The numbers basically reflect the population centers around the state but the rural areas are cherry red.

I know good religious people of many faiths. They try to live life without harming others. But they seem to be overwhelmed by the crazies that seem to be in charge or are quoted. Same with the red states. Of course there are many liberal people but they get overwhelmed by the crazies.

I try not to disparage any whole group.

Only 56% of the of the 79% of active voters in FL voted for Trump. If only TWO people had changed their vote everything would have been different. Florida was this close. (Please imagine my fingers fractions of an inch apart.)

Where's my pearls, I need to clutch them.

Why you can usually find a person in any crowd who doesn't hate Gays, Latinos, and Women. You've disparaged that person. How will that person be able to continue on in that gosh-awful state if you don't carefully qualify your words on a discussion board dedicated to Democrats? How will they possibly be able to continue with your insensitive remark?
---------------------

I don't know why people are giving you a hard time. I don't expect anyone on DU that actively participates to have voted for Trump. I personally don't take offense against statements not directed at me.

I have 4 sisters. Two of them are lost causes. They voted for the rapist felon. The other two who are liberal are constantly making excuses for the bad decisions of the "Christians" (the other two).

By comparison, this may not be a terrible broad brush, but sometimes it feels like death by a thousand paper cuts. It doesn't rise to the level of people at DU openly advocating for a hurricane to wipe us all off the map which does happen when we get a walloping, but it still stings. It simply doesn't need to be said because it feels like all the hard work Florida Democrats put in isn't recognized and we're exhausted.

He's speaking the truth, and, even though Trump won big in Florida, Harris got nearly 4.7 million votes.
These voters understand the danger the Trump administration is putting them in, and those Trump voters may soon have a reason to regret their vote.
This guy is giving the people of Florida a chance to get better prepared than they would normally have to be, and that's not something to criticize him about.
